I must say that if the silk to egg is part of your performance you must get in touch with Bob Sanders, and ask about his Silk to Egg.
The quailty is superb and matches closely to an original egg. He will supply you with everything you need to start performing it immediately. The instructions are well written, and of his own routine. I originally used an egg from a WalMart magic kit, and the reactions were decent. Although I will not be able to give it a try until tomorrow I will definitely keep you posted on how the results differ. (I am confident they will!) Thanks Bob Chaz |

I agree Chaz! You stated my thoughts almost....uh....eggsactly!
I have several different Silk-To-Egg sets, but Bob's eggs are by far the most realistic! Regan

I picked up three different sets of Bob's Silk to egg at TAOM. The "Egg" is also a wonderful utility for a few other things. Extremely well made, easy to hold and use, good feel and appearance. He has them in white and brown eggs and includes good quality silks with them as well.
Bob is always willing to give you a hint or help with your routine. He showed me a Slydini steal (and I studied some with Tony) use that I had never thought of and believe me, it works great with silk to egg.

I am confused. The listings to buy egg to silk come with two silks, different colors. Don't you need two of the same color? You show the one in your pocket while the other is still in the egg. I know the joke about buying two of the same color, but it seems that this is the case in the purchase. Is it just so you can do it with different colors, and if so don't you then need to buy two more silks?

Good question! There are also good reasons for this being available either way. (And, of course, they are!)
There are generations of routines out there for these props. Some do require only one silk some require two silks. Some even require two matching silks. The sets are sold with two 18" 100% pure Dovelite silks. You may get matching colors or two different colors. Just specify what you want when ordering. Especially for those who use the Walk-Around Version of Silk to Egg, the advantage of using two different colors is to use a different color at a different table to reduce "tattling" by those who might have just seen the trick. Others combine the trick with 20th Century Silks and have more than one color of those sets to match. Catch me at a lecture sometime and we'll explore the possibilities. You'd be surprised how versatile this prop can be. Try it with sponge balls! It will hold six of the 2" sponge balls. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I see Chaz had an egg from Walmart which wouldn't be hard to improve on!!
I have heard & seen Bob's eggs as well as reviews over the years we are both big fans & performers of Silk to Egg and have written many comments on the effect Bob's & Viking Magic in my opinion only! have the best by far as they are so realistic! Bob has it all Stage & close up versions! The reason they're so good is he performs the routine and knows whats required!!! Thanks for the thread chaz!

Brent,
I certainly owe you thanks for the kind words. I am grateful! Thank you. A point that you make that is very important to me is that I sell nothing that I don't use professionally myself. The rule of thumb is that the prop was made for my act first and then offered to the magician community. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I have a couple Silk 2 Egg sets on the way from Bob Sanders. What a great and gracious person! So very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge!
Bob, it was a pleasure speaking with you, and I hope to do business with you again! Thank you. Jim |

Hello Jim,
Thank you for the kind words. By now you should have your new props and be well into putting them to work for you. During Easter season is a great time to find plastic Easter Eggs that will hold these props as well as real eggs for safe keeping. Enjoy! Bob Sanders Magic by Sander |

Hi Bob,
I tried your idea above: "Others combine the trick with 20th Century Silks and have more than one color of those sets to match." That worked great, but now I'm wondering about the order of the reveal. I cracked the egg (I was doing the platform version) and then answered the audience's unspoken question of "where did the silk go" by letting the student who was holding the 20th century silks open them up to find the missing silk there. That seems like a logical progression, but I think cracking the egg is the high point of the trick and should probably be saved for last. What do you (and others) think? |

Curt,
I agree that cracking the egg is the best applause point for the magician. Take it! Discovering the missing silk in between in the 20th Century Silk is the high point for your volunteer. Take that opportunity too! Then you can "milk it" as you dismiss the volunteer and ask for applause for their help as they leave the stage. You could end there but I don't. There is more show to go but I need the volunteer off stage. It certainly is a good question. And in some cases may have a different option. Another short ending is to keep the order and produce the end of the 20th Century Silk effect last. Then take the three joined silks and use them in a bag type blendo to end the show with a large "The End", "Thank You!", "Good Bye", Flag or other appropriate message to end the show. Ricker is correct. Changing silk colors is no problem but matching stickers may need to be found at an office supply store. Many magicians use a scrap of matching silk held on with rubber cement. It works!
There are times when there is also a theme that requires a specific color. Enjoy! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Don't forget that special hanks with company logos or team mascots can also be used on silks. |

I have found a different cleaner for the white ceramic eggs. If you do my Walk-Around Silk to Egg routine where food is served and actually hand the egg props to the people at the table as I do, eggs will get butter, salad dressing, etc. on them. I have been advising people to use Johnson's No More Tears Baby Shampoo to clean them. That still works. However, I have had to use the Magic Eraser Sponge (from WalMart) in a tight. IT WORKS!
I haven't been brave enough to try this on brown eggs. I do suspect that in time it will leave the white egg shinny from abrasion. But if you are a pro, they are replaceable. If not, you may never have the problem. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
