What a great introduction and entrance that would be for him at WMS seminar.

Imagine Pete Biro lifting that huge cup and Bill Palmer appearing from inside with 100 cups set.

Imagine the EMTs trying to revive Pete after he lifted that cup.

Frustrating that the vid just ends without showing the finished product...

Anyone seen Andrei Rublev? It's a great movie by Tarkovsky about a 15th century Russian icon painter wherein they cast a bell. After seeing that film I was a) a fan of Tarkovsky's for life, and b) in awe of cathedrals and their builders from there on out.
The man also did a film called Stalker which is the creepiest sci-fi film ever made without the use of any special effects whatsoever. Every bizarre magician should see that movie. |

Actually I think that's a dove pan lid.
Try this for a CNC cup spinner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quugnBW2Hq8&feature=related

Computer numerical control (CNC) does not work with a metal disc but a solid block of metal (as far as I know) this is just an automatic spinning lathe (operated with a computer)

Thanks for posting this! Jake has explained the process (in lay terms thank goodness) to me but now with the visual I can appreciate the craftsmanship even more!

CNC means computer numerical control. It does not necessarily mean cutting. As Epiphany pointed out, CNC can embrace spinning, cutting, milling and other forms.
Guitar inlays are cut on a CNC table using a laser. That's why modern inlay work is so precise.

Youtube also has a CNC spinning setup if you search a bit.
I looked at a whole bunch of spinning videos today. they're very interesting.

It was neat to watch how metal is turned, it would be even neater to see Jake spin a cup on Youtube.

One of those videos has a dude spinning, looks like he lost a few fingers along the way.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Did you see the fingers dropped off? I'm curious as I haven't seen fingers dropping off from a live person before. Which clip????
