Who here has Troy Hooser's "Shellraiser" video? Is this any good? How good is the shell that comes with it? Thanks!

Good material. Ten effects. Mediocre shell.

The shell is ok, you have to check a "few" halves to be certain of the fit though.

So your saying that if I put a coin into the shell I may not ever see it again? LOL I think I just had an anxiety attack haha.

The DVD is very good and geared a bit more towards beginners - a good intro to the gimmick. I agree that the shell is second rate, almost unusable.

Wayne, Thanks for responding. The shell that is included with the DVD is too tight to fit around a normal half dollar? Are there any ways of preventing this or trying different coins before putting them in?

Good DVD, bad sh**l, the sh**l that came with this DVD was too tight to work properly with my coins.

Oh. It sounds like they are very weak from what I have been hearing, Like they can be broken just by pressing down on them.

Interestingly, I was playing around and found a regular half-dollar that worked with the Shellraiser gimmick. It was a tight fit, but the gimmick could be used.
I think the Shellraiser gimmick is one for the junk drawer. Consider Shellraiser for the DVD instruction and purchase your gimmick from a separate source. I also prefer the weight of the Johnson version of the gimmick. -Wayne

Hehe lol. Good idea mortenN. Could this shell be used in tricks? Is it difficult to get on and off durring tricks? Could I pick up the shell off of a half dollar lying flat on the table?

'* My recommendation is to buy "Shellraiser" AND use some extra money on a better sh**l. I guess that will give a much better start to the funny Sh**l magic. The sh**l in the DVD set is unfortunately not so good to have fun with, but of course, if you have a lot of patience anything is impossible. -Morten- |

Great DVD, but as everyone has said the included shell is not so good.
I had to go through about 30 Kennedy halfs to find four that the shell would work with, and even then the shell appears to be stamped from thin Aluminum or other cheap metal and just doesn't look right. Get the DVD, and replace the shell. |

The DVD is top notch. We have sold MANY!
The shell is "ok" for a starter shell... but in all honesty, pick up a different shell and just start using a better one from the start. The DVD is worth the price alone - consider the shell a freebie prize. I will say however that Troy's purpose on this shell was to be able to flash the inside as well, but I think the overall quality and look fell short. Shellraiser is a great video and will teach many practical uses for a shell. You wont be disappointed.

In the marketing video, the routing shown are mostly seated and table top. Then there is a section titled "Bonus Performances" where Troy is doing a stand up, fingertips coins across. Is this taught or just demonstrated.

I've got the DVD and thinks it's a good value. Good routines. Of course, you'll be buying this for the DVD, not the shell. Use your own.

I have to agree the shell is not great. However, the price is great for what you get with the DVD.

I already has a decent shell and wanted this DVD for some routines and ideas to use with it. Putting aside the quality of the shell that comes with it (not that good), the DVD itself is excellent. Great routines which are well performed and taught.
