Hiya Gang!

Well, it's official- I'll be in NYC next week from Saturday morning (Nov. 08) until Tuesday afternoon (Nov.11).

I'm totally into any suggestions people have in the way of visiting magic landmarks or just meeting up. My schedule's already a bit crazy but I'd love to meet some people if time permits.

Sked so far includes:

Tannen's (prob Saturday)
Fantasma
Cafe Rustico II (I hear some people hang out there Saturday afternoons?)
Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic
Rogue's Magic
Monday Night Magic

Anything else to suggest?

Thanks!

If this sort of thing rocks your boat, possibly you could visit the office of The Conjuring Arts Research Center:

You'd probably have to call in advance.

1/2 off theater tickets are at 46th and Broadway
24 hour subway passes are $7.50 each, be sure to get a subway map
Don't go out without a game plan or you will wind up chasing your tail
Wear good walking shoes
The cabs are a waste of time use the subway.
There is a great diner at 52nd and Broadway with singing waiters, and waitresses
Be sure to eat at least one dinner in little Italy
If you go to Monday night magic be sure to tell Michael that you are a magician, and he will invite you to eat with them after the show. The last time I did that we ate with Steve Martin who did the same thing.
The statue of liberty will take you at least 1/2 a day
Walk with the locals, because if you walk like a west coast person you will never get anywhere
You will get the hang of it in a day or so
All New Yorkers can spot an out of towner at 100 yards and contrary to popular belief they will be happy to help you
There is reletively no street crime in New York
Keep your eyes on where you are going because stuff comes at you very fast
Don't waste your time going to Tannens you will be very disappointed
Café rustica should be lots of fun
A real New Yorker wears a back pack, and an ipod
Don't bother dressing up
There's usually some good street performing going on under ground at the 42 street subway station

There's probibly lots more but that's off the top of my head.

Keep youe eyes on the traffic when you cross against the lights, like a real New Yorker.
Never, never, never look a cab driver in the eye or he will play chicken with you. Look at him out of the corner of your eye, and act like you own the street. If you are not sure what to do go with the flow.

Great tips!

How about from a history aspect- is there any magic "buildings" (i.e. Houdini's house) that I should check out?

That's a little harsh! It's definitely worth a trip if you're in the neighborhood visiting Fantasima anyhow (they're maybe 6 blocks away from each other)...

Also, there's usually good street performing at the south street seaport in lower manhattan near the Brooklyn bridge -Touristy, but fun!

Hey Jamie, I'll be working at Tannen's this saturday and would be happy to talk about magic, we are having a Jeff Hobson lecture on Monday, but he's performing at Fantasma on Friday. You can go to Maui Taco's and Rustico's too since they're both arounf the block.
Hope to see you
