I bought this a few months ago but never got around to posting my thoughts anywhere. I also noticed this thread hasn't been active in a long time, so I'm hoping people will check this out and get it. Bill’s thinking deserves to be recognized a lot more.
Suggestabilities is filled with great material. I love books that are filled with “psychological subtleties” rather than just effects. The material found in this book has truly made its way into my act. Let’s take a quick look at what each section is about: Cover Page: The hair, just awesome. Must be seen to be believed. Ericksonian Extracts: This is an essay Bill wrote a couple of years ago. We are introduced to Milton Erickson and his thinking, which has made me want to read up more about him and his techniques. A lot of thought provoking ideas are included which I can’t mention here without tipping them off. We are also introduced to a young Beta stage Subliminal square! Alphabody Language: Very nice thinking on taking the “psychological illusionist” approach. I began by using the basic idea for lie detection routines with the whole audience. Now I’m using it all the time with my mindreading bits, having my cameraman zoom in on people’s faces to project it on a big screen. A Suggestion For The Use Of Suggestion: This simple idea can be explained in one sentence, but wow, it is very strong and useful, probably one of the best tips I’ve ever heard on using suggestion. I use this for all routines I practice. Great for hypnosis and great for really The Jumping Pulse: Awesome idea! It can be an effect by itself, or simply a tool to help you connect with your whole audience and move on to a bigger experiment. I’ve read that Anthony Jacquin, Andrew Gerard and Jerome Finley have all evolved this into a really strong piece of their individual acts. That alone says a lot; you can turn this little technique into something very original in your show. Justifying Your Gaze: Great ideas here. I hope that now more books on billet work will begin to incorporate similar thoughts. The title says it all. Many performers feel guilty making that bold peek and this will help them overcome that. For those who felt weird using their peek wallets, Bill’s given you a logical method and has also invited us to analyze how we’re making out peeks. Outside The Fold: Very creative technique for NW users. I have to admit I’ve been using this for many “impromptu” performances. If the NW Anthology book is ever published again, this routine needs to be included in it. This is great specially for those who feel weird looking directly at the paper to check their “dirty work”. The justifying your gaze chapter is also key here. Bill & Millard’s Excellent Adventure: Hilarious yet very interesting chapter. Here we follow the evil duo of Cushman and Longman as they visit a psychic. I wish I’d been there; this has inspired me to go visit the psychics here in Colombia. He also provides a very funny link to give you a better picture of what was going on. Most chapters are followed by an “Afterthoughts” section which show Bill’s new thinking and evolution to what he had originally written. Plenty of great new details are found in each one. Bill’s writing style is very relaxed, like a friend explaining something to you. I also bought Mind Index which is filled with great billet presentations and thoughts, many of which combine very well with the techniques in Suggestabilities. Another great effect is the subliminal square by Bill which is in Psychological Subtleties 2. That’s a piece I’d long overlooked but is now always in my Hideout wallet for when I meet clients and they want to see something very real and very odd. I’ve yet to buy Subliminal Squares which is the definitive work on this subject, but I will be getting it soon to expand on the technique and thank Bill for helping me astonish many clients so easily and leaving them with a cool souvenir. How’s Bill doing these days? I was going to write him now, but I figured many of us would like to hear from him as well so here’s hoping he’s had a speedy recovery and will show up in this thread soon. Thanks again Bill! Mauricio PS: Those who already own the book should re-read it. The second time will yield some wonderful subtleties you didn’t remember. Try it out! |

I somehow Missed that Mauricio had made this post. It is one thing when someone reads a new book or checks out a new product and gives great reviews but I find it so much more meaningful to hear from people how things work out in the long term.
Mauricio is a young professional rising star from Columbia, who performs for several large corporations and is gaining quite a reputation for excellence. I particularly like that he writes about incorporating material from Suggestabilities and Mind Index into both his stage and close-up work. I love reading that he has taken Alphabody Langauge and amped it up with large screens. I've also found the audience reactions priceless but it never occured to me to share them on such a large scale. A large screen can be useful for AlphaBody Language in other ways too, as I've discussed with Mauricio. I'm particularly flattered Mauricio is using a version of Subliminal Squares to impress potential clients. And that he is picking up on all the subtleties throughout my ebooks and making them his own is my exact intent and leaves me feeling I've done my job. Thank you Mauricio, for this unexpected endorsement. Now that I know who you are I'd like to see you perform, even if I don't understand the language! At least I should be able to follow my own material! |

I finished reading this last week...what an excellent read!
Not a book of effects, but it offers some great insight to our craft. The "Jumping Pulse" effect is fantastic! Nice work Bill! Paul |
