I could not find a topic on this, so I decided to start it here.
As many of you already know I am now collecting Chinese Sticks. Any and all comments are appreciated. As of toady, I own 23 sets, and 10 more are on my list. Please send me a pm of any sticks you might have for sale. History or stories of sticks would be great posted here. I would also like to start a bibliography of Chinese Sticks in print. As soon as I get a picture scrap-book of my sticks, I will post the link here. Thanks! ACE Joe(JOJO)Strauch

Great subject. Why not post a list of your collected sets.
I have Owen, one standard and one set modified to my NO TILT system. One set of Kovari Bamboo (also modified). One of Scotty Hooten's - very radical system. S set of Mikame (altho I may have thrown them out). Another set of Xanadu and a set of aluminum tube (heaavy) that are all apart. I had and sold a beautiful set made by Lloyd Enochs. A set of PVC pipe ones that I have half built using electric motors (probaly won't finih). Ones I wish I had keptd were the personal property of Richard HImber...the kind that got longer and longer. I sold them cheap before I knew they were valuable. Argh.

As soon as I get a few more sticks I have on order, I will photograph them and put them somewhere with a link. I don't know about a museum, I could never achieve what Bill has done. He has hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands of cups. I don't think there are that many Chinese Sticks out there.
That is why I have a call out to anyone who has any sticks that are not on my list. Thanks to those that already replied. I'm still looking for a Viking set and the Metal German set. ACE

Thanks! I did a search for "Chinese Sticks" and nothing came up. You must be a better searcher than me.
I'm not into pom pom poles yet. To me they are senseless, sure you can make them go up and down when they are connected, but when you take them apart, you CANNOT. And I can with Chinese Sticks. So what's the magic in pom pom poles? Now who are you? So many people have 2 faces in their pictures, and I do not know anyone, so I don't know who you are. And I don't know Ron. I've been not in the magic community for many years, I have been performing for the public for the past 30 years. So forgive me for my ignorance. I'm Joe Strauch, nice to meet you, and my nickname here is: ACE!

Wow! Yes, the lady is much cuter than the other guy, lol.
Very nice pic. Thanks! I really do get confused sometimes, I guess I am getting old. Lots of people with famous people, and I don't know the famous people, wait, WE are famous in our own right, or "future" famous. And I just read all the threads, a lot of very good info. And I think I have leads on 2 more sets. Thanks again. I took the plunge and ordered the OWEN set today, that hit me up for $295 plus postage. Joe

Well, I'm actually 49, I've been doing magic for over 30 years, I was doing magic as a young teenager. That picture is only about 5 years old, but I can't figure out how to make my current picture fit. I still look the same, just a little fatter, lol.
Joe Posted: Nov 6, 2008 9:48pm Just to let everyone know I am serious, here is a quick preview of my sticks: http://s474.photobucket.com/albums/rr110......lideshow Check back often, as I have 7 more sets coming in that are probably some of the more interesting ones. When I get time, I will take better pics. This was kind of rushed. I dislike the background I used. It will get better. Hope ya'll like! ACE Posted: Nov 7, 2008 2:42am Okay, I just re-took all the pictures with a plain background, http://s474.photobucket.com/albums/rr110......lideshow ACE

Wow, Ace. Those Chinese Sticks are beautiful. I never knew so many were made. You should make a museum the same way Bill Palmer has a Cups and Balls Museum.

Thanks. That is just the beginning.
Wait until you see the new ones coming in: Owen, Possibly a Silent Mora set, Precision, Practical magic , Vintage Bamboo, Kovari in Yellow, possibly a Fenichell, New FAB set of 3 in Brass, Gold FAB. Bill has thousands of cups, I don't think there are over 100 different types of sticks. So for now, that is my scrap book. I am looking into one of the Free sites like a yahoo page to put them on. Someone suggested to make it more interesting, after I do sticks, I could picture other equipment. Well, I have about 18 Wolf magic items. And then I have about a dozen Dove and Duck pans. Lots of Abbott stuff, about a dozen Rabbit Production boxes, etc. So we will see. Right now my interest in in sticks. If I run out of sticks to buy, maybe I will get Pom Pom poles, not sure yet. ACE

Very nice pictures - I have about six of those. What an amazing collection and interesting area to collect in.
I picked up an unusual set of sticks this year. They are heavy black rubber like material with aluminum tips. They resemble the wands that are made from the HP printer cartridges. A very smooth set.

I read someone describe Chinese sticks as a "magicians" trick.
I would think the opposite. This is not something you would perform for magicians, but the lay audience. (How could this ever fool a magician in its standard form?) Although I always worked for the general public, I would try to buy tricks that would fool me. Not always the best way to go. Probably why I never got any sticks until recently. I'm getting some good emails for some good sticks. But not as many as I expected. I think this is probably because some might be like I was and not view this as very amazing. Or I think the majority of magicians look for "magician foolers" of which these are not.(Exception: There are a few "magician fooler" sets of sticks, you will have to find yourself, ex.: Martin Lewis) All in all, with a good routine, sticks can be very entertaining for a lay audience. And a few of the working pros know this. Notice the emphasis is on "entertaining". Thanks for all that replied and keep the pm's coming in. ACE Posted: Nov 8, 2008 9:55pm Does anyone know who made this set? I have an idea, but I want to confirm it before I say. http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr110......0524.jpg thanks ACE

Disney: wow, I like the look, like a nice set of magic wands.
Pete, not sure, all the Haenchen I've seen are red with gold ends. The ends of these are plastic. And the middle is Aluminum. I'm thinking Finichel? Joe Posted: Nov 10, 2008 12:02pm I can't believe Owen charged me $21 in postage for their set of sticks! Someone warned me everything they have is overprice, now even the shipping! I would never have gotten these, except that I am collecting. I'll let everyone know if I recommend them after I get them. I'm sure some of the less priced sticks that I have are a lot better. I also ordered the Chinese Sticks from Practical Magic in the UK, and they refunded me part of the shipping that I overpaid at checkout! Now that is an honest dealer!!! ACE

I had forgotten Finichel... you may have it right. I think the Owen sticks are the best looking. Nice and thick and great graphics. I have two sets, one I modified for my no tilt move.
Posted: Nov 10, 2008 12:29pm If you put a couple of tiny velcro dots between the sticks, near the ends, it makes it easier to hold them TOGETHER at the beginning of the routine.
