That was a good way for you to sneak in a post. |

Don't like conventions.
Very selective about books and props and routining. Huge fan of the social sciences, psychology, human nature, meta-cognition, and wonder. Introduced to magic at 10 years old. Started performing at 11 years old. Put it all down at 15. Picked it all back up at 20. Now 45 and, for the last 25 years, haven't stopped learning, thinking, and performing. Will I ever stop? Not on your life, pal. My name is Patrick, and I am addicted to magic. It's just one of those things...
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

My feeling that knowledge of the ultimate control, or knowledge of the ultimate force, is on it's way to me is a more alluring feeling than being content with the now merely "satisfactory" sleights that I already know. I have a backlog of terrific books that I just can't get through because, when I start reading one, I order 2 more. When I first started getting DVDs, I figured a few sets (about a dozen varied DVDs) would be all I ever needed. I now have about 200. However, magic DVDs have taken on a new meaning for me. I no longer see them as just tools for learning (although, they are of course), but more as ENTERTAINMENT. I just love watching magic. Some people pick up movies at Blockbuster for the weekend... I am more "entertained" by watching magic - even if I may be familiar with the methods. This is a good "addiction" we have. It fulfills us. It expands our imaginations and excites our senses. Our lives would be boring and empty without it. So, nurture it. And pass on the "addiction." Ron

Can you describe what it is about the ad copy or the pictures for the tricks which appeal to you? The good news is that magic is a "what" like water - which is useful, but not a replacement for other things you need like bread or a roof over your head. So get to the root about why you're craving the stuff, and you can move on.
