Here is a video I found of a Snap Brand Cube Zag in action. Did they get lazy with the extra small tubes? And what is up with the paint job? I do like the addition of the swords, although the bottom one should be off centered to the left, IMO.

And the reason you're bringing attention to this knock-off??

WOW!!!! What an amazing piece of ****!! If you are going to rip something off at least copy it. This thing looks big enough to hold 2 people. Just no concept of illusion design or optics...very sad. And PLEASE stop abusing the use of formica.

Ditto. It looks a lot better in their website pictures but that is just an illusion. What a hack job.

An awful prop. Lol... a pain for all. And how should that be able to deceive?

Yes John, you are correct. They paint the props a base color and then paint some splater type paint on the color.... This splater paint was made to make a marble type finish....
Thank you, Taylor

I remember when MAK used to paint their props like this.. back in 1976.
Unless they're trying to make their crap look retro.. it's some of the ugliest illusion building I've ever seen. |

There is also a specific paint out there (one step) that does this. I don't know the name of it, but have seen it in some of the more high-end paint shops. But again, I don't know why anyone would want to do this.

I don't know why anyone would want to do this. Perhaps because that splatter design can hide many sins. I noticed this on many old MAK props. The base coats often had drips, globs, debris in the paint, etc. Putting the splatter over top of it made the other imperfections less noticeable. By using the webbing spray on top, props could conceivably go out the door faster because you spend zero time getting a nice smooth finish. Just slap it on and away they go...warts and all. Agreed about hiding the imperfections and such. I just meant it from an appearance point of view, that it is not all that appealing. But then again, to each they're own!

I have always believed that one of the main reasons that Owen apparatus is expensive is not so much the quality of the construction (which is impeccable), but the quality of the finish. Many times I have seen a beautiful piece of apparatus ruined by a lousy finish. I have also seen a cheaper prop made valuable by a beautiful paint job.
For examples, just look at some of the stuff that Michael Baker and Ron Reid (and others) have done. Honestly, I can't see any reason for a crackle finish on a magic prop, except to make it look old, or to make it look like some sort of stone.

So Earl, are you putting Sn_p products in the same class as MAK?
What an insult to MAK...
