Just wanted to know who's double lift David Blaine performs, you know the one where he pivots it on his thumb. Any information on where to find information on how to do it?
I'm sure he didn't come up with it himself!!! |

Check out Giobbi´s Card College, you will find there this double, and a lot of them too, and a lot of other techniques and basic movements in card magic.
All the best magic, Pablo Tejero

There is a double on the new David Acer video: Open Traveler that I think looks similar. The only bad thing is that it requires a pinky count that is not the easiest thing to do and David doesn't go into detail about the count. If you can figure out the count David does explain the lift pretty well.

I believe he uses Martin Nash's Knockout Double. I know the knockout is explained on Gregory Wilson's Double Take video. It's probably also in one of Nash's books or videos.

Could be wrong but it doesn't look like D.B. uses a break (at least not always) -- it wouldn't make sense to have such a large bevel. From here it looks like he uses the bevel to aid a push-off before the right hand gets Dingle-ish; it's likely a synthesis of a number of sources. |

David Blaine uses the method that is explained in Basic Card Technique, that is the only source I know that has David Blaine's double lift, which is a 2 card push over and I use the double lift that David Blaine uses and it is very good. If you guys want to know any information on it or how to do it just PM me.

Greg Wilson explains it nicely and demonstrates it on his video double take. I think it is easier to learn it on video than by book. Daryls, Snap Double, in my opinion is more impressive though. But if you really want to make it look nonchalant, just bevel the deck and lift it straight with your index finger, nothing fancy, nothing to suspect

Am I the only one who thinks the double-lift in question is not particularly good. It just doesn't seem as natural as say, Vernon's (which I use).

Is Dai Vernon's, The Snap Double, what Daryl uses in his video tapes?

Is there any double lifts where it seems as you push the card off the deck first... I use the snap double, or I hold a break when I have a card already out and I get a break under the single card, put it back on and you got a DL....

indianajones - No.
Moffmo - Yes, Vernon's. That's why it's so convincing.

I agree with you completely. Dr James Elliott told Vernon, who then told the rest of the world, the 2 most important words in magic - "BE NATURAL". To me, the DL in question does not meet that criteria. It is just not natural to pivot a card at the base of your thumb in that manner. Some may say that it is a flourishy way of showing the card(s) and that magicians are, stereotypically, supposed to be better at handling cards than lay people. All well and good, BUT if you are trying to convince someone that you are not doing something when, in fact, you are, why make a flourishy move out of it? Why not just turn 2 cards over as one, like the pages of the book.
My new manuscript, "The Difficult Second Album", is now available at www.thecardman.co.uk
