Im wondering if there is a dvd out there, that is all about the delivery of magic, the performace, essence, or whatnot, how to go about making a routine, patter, My mechanics and knowladge of tricks and effects is fine, but putting everything together into a routine, with a start, middle and end, is really stumping me. Any help would be great
Thanks a ton -Derek |

Why is it when someone asks about DVDs, specifically in the DVD forum, people reply with book references? I noticed this happens alot, and then derails the thread and never actually addresses or answers the original poster's questions.

Maybe there are no dvds out yet on the subject. That's why they suggested books. Jeremy

Derek, There may not be one DVD or series of DVDs that covers all you request. Depending on what type of magic you perform, Paul Daniels had some DVDs on the business and performance side of magic that may help. Also, Jeff McBride's DVDs contain segments addressing some of what you're looking for. You might try looking in other areas (outside of magic) of the performing arts such as screen writing, plays, story-telling, etc. - Don

Larry Davidson's DVD set "Scripted Insanity" are a must haves. They show you the secrets the Pro's use. AND...they contain killer routines.
Here's what it says from the jacket: "Essays on Scripting, Motivation and Rehearsal. Larry’s insights are based on performing for thousands of people in his career. He shares his thoughts in extreme detail. This is extremely valuable information that’s usually glossed over"!

Eugene Burger's last L+L DVD had some thoughts on routining and presentation. Not enough though IMO, it started off well but then turned into trick/explanation, trick/explanation etc.

The Eugene Burger DVD is "Exploring Magical Presentations." It's a great DVD. In one section, he explores six different presentations of the same trick, which should help all magicians spark some ideas.
You can read my review of his DVD here: http://magic.about.com/od/magicreview/fr/012108burger.htm I agree that most of the best references and guides to presentations have come in books and not on DVD. -Wayne
