Hi all. I was thinking about getting shellraiser, But from what I have heard, the shell sucks. The most common complaint is that the coin cannot be removed from the shell. Do you think if I reinforced the shell by sticking some wax in it, The coin can be put in, But not all the way so I can easily feel where the shell spearates from the coin so I can easily remove the real coin? Basically I want the coin sticking out just enough so I can feel it and remove it without "Banging it on a table"

I was able to find at least 5 halves easily at local bank out of 10 that fit this shell fine. The remaining 5 did get "hung" up though.

OK. The shell is a hit and miss then and I might not even need to do this.

Casino halfs work better. They are worn on the edges due to the constant insertion and ejection at the machine.

All coins once they are in circulation begin to vary in size due to wear! Get a roll of halves and make up a set that fit just right and maybe even match the dates!

First off I just didn't like the looks of this shell, it looks like stamped aluminum. Great DVD, but the shell just looked too fake to me.
Second, I did have trouble finding some halfs that would easily work with this shell. Most were "oh so close", but just not right. It took about 20 to find 4 good ones. Another possible option, .... someone posted to take a very thin silk and lay across the shell, forcing a tight half in on top of the silk. Use the silk then to pull the coin out of the shell. They said the added thickness of the silk would force open the shell ever so slightly and they found most coins would then work just fine. Sounds logical, and like I said most halfs I tried were just a tiny bit tight. |

I have lots of casino halfs that you can have for face value and postage. You can also sand off the edges as previously mentioned.

Or stretch the shell by nesting it with a silk set in between the shell and the coin.. Contiue this process by folding the silk until the coin has been streached to a desired fit. If you need to reverse the process nest the shell on the coin (no slik) and roll the edge of the nested set on a hard surface.

Most casinos are getting out of the coin in/out machines in favor of the ticket system. I have to hunt for the machines in Colorado. I "buy" a bunch and give them to a kid at the end of my coin pail routine. I have to sort through the good and the bad to give the kid something presentable.
The coin counters at the casinos reject "bad" coins. I ask for them - always nice magical suprises.

The review in the Linking Ring of ShellRaiser commented on the sticking propensities and poor quality of the expanded shell. Knowing Troy I went ahead and purchased a copy, but found the reviewer was correct! It is hard to believe that Troy would have condoned the release of such a shoddy product under his name,
especially since the ads claimed the shell was worth twenty five American dollars. If anyone on the forum knows Troy well I suggest they tell him about the problem and urge him to contact Royal to get the problem remedied.Troy will be on a lecture tour in January and I think it would be greatly to his advantage to try to get the situation remedied before then if possible. drjeb |

What I have done to expand a shell is put a english penny in it then use a bang ring to get it out, works great !!!!

What I do if I drop a shell (or lose a coin and get a new one that doesn't fit), is get a dollar bill and put the shell on the face and the coin on the back. Push them hard together and seperate them. The end result will expand your shell so it is a dollar bill thickness wider than the regular coin. all is well then, everything will then fit. Plus the newer halves starting year 2000 are considerably smaller than other halves I belive. Try getting a new half and see if it fits.
