I mean provide the performance in writing so it can be approved by the charity board. I just feel that they are getting something for next to nothing and then by asking this it feels like a slap, or is this the norm.

I would give them the list and chuckle!!! ie.
Professors Nightmare Crystal Appear Osmosis What the heck woould that tell them? LOL I think you should take on some of the work/responsibility (if that's the right word) and ask them what they are looking for. ie is it length, do you use volunteers, spoken act or to music, staging etc. They must be looking for something. Unless of course there is a magician in their group, they will not know what the heck you are talking about in you list. Blair

I'd suggest sending them some promo materials, a picture and a resume. They probably just need something to show their board.

They may have been "stung" at some time by a performer who roughly handled the youth volunteers or used material that they felt was inappropriate. Can you imagine the outrage of a PETA-supportive chairperson or board member while watching the Rabbit Wringer or Head off of a Dove bit?
I was hired for a church's harvest festival a few years back and was politely informed after my first routine that I couldn't use the word "magic" as it was against their beliefs. So I replaced it with "imagination" and the show was a hit. Go figger! Then again, I perform regularly for family days at a local state prison for women. The management requires a full list of routines and every item used throughout each show. As the client, even for a donated show, I believe that they have the right and obligation to inquire on the content and structure of your show. For a charity gig, a promo video should suffice or an invitation to attend one of your upcoming shows as a live audition. Maybe a simple statement like "Every child is a star and no one is ever embarrassed in my shows. I use all family-friendly, uplifting materials with no suggestive or blue material. No animals are ever harmed or appear to be harmed in any way." Something like that, maybe?

I make a big point of emphasising in all my marketing material that I do a clean show - family suitable etc.
That's my market and promoting it that seems to work for me as well as for the clients. If a client has been stung in the past, they will be a little gun shy, and so it helps to take away the fear you may do or say something inappropriate.

I would answer their inquiry with a level of detail (as suggested in several posts above) with which I feel comfortable. If they then insist on more, that may be a clue that there's a "land mine" waiting for you, in the form of someone hankering to find something to take issue with, and I'd decline the show.

Just got another message from them, stating there will be religious people in the audience that's the reason for the pre performance approval, they don't want to offend anyone, also asked to make sure my assistant dress proper. Think I'll forget this one, seems more problems than what it's worth.
