Mine is:
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen... I would like to leave you tonight with one last thought... Always watch out for number one, but don't step in number two!" Works for me!

That's the show folks! If you liked it, I'm Marc Levine, if you didn't, it's David Copperfield...

Magicians are using other magicians' prized lines now? Whoa. I have seen SO many magicians say that line and it is only funny when Greg Wilson does it. Most likely because he is the creator of that line.

Sorry buddy. That line has been around long before Greg Wilson, perhaps before he was born.

You don't have to use a line.
Just be yourself and graciously thank your audience. You should have just awed them with your closing effect. Don't down play it with canned humor.

Guardian,
Most comedy shows "leave 'em laughin." Your right that you don't have to, but I wouldn't say you have to leave with an aweing effect either unless it is a illusion show. I have no idea who first said, "If you didn't like the show my name is David Copperfield", but I have heard it ever since I heard of Copperfield. I wouldn't use that one at this point… so over used. I always loved Red Skeltons. "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." Sillily, Will

I think if you have a comedy show, then you should try to go out on a laugh, just as you try to start it with a laugh. There are so many things you can say, I agree there is no reason to use some of the most overused ones.
Although, because we've heard them a lot, it doesn't mean the audience has, unless you're performing at a comedy club or something. |

For my stand up shows I always end with Bill to Lemon, and as I give the dollar bill back I say, "Ladies and gentleman, my grandfather always told me that the most valuable thing that we possess in life is not our money, it's our time. So at this time I would like to thank each and every one of you for choosing to spend some of YOUR TIME with me here this evening. Thank you and goodnight."
This never fails to really set the mood for a big round of applause as I am really letting the audience know how much I really appreciate them. Anyway, I have used this for years to close all my shows. It has served me very well. Feel free to use this if you wish. I hope this helps, Cody S. Fisher

I close my mentalism act by saying, "If you enjoyed my show, I'm Joe Libby. If you didn't, I'm the Amazing Kreskin." I used to close my ventriloquist act by saying, "... if you didn't, I'm Shari Lewis." But I dropped it after she died. Sometimes I'll use "Paul Winchell" if it's a crowd my age or older. Overused maybe, but not done to death. It usually gets a very big laugh for me, and, it gets your name out in front of the audience one last time. Never a bad thing! See ya! Joe L.

I like to finish on a laugh and then go straight into "Thank You and Good night". I find the energy of the laugh is transfer into the applause and the ovation is greater.
"Thank you and drive carefully...except maybe YOU!" (Point to heckler) "Please thank all of the people who have made this show possible. And by that...I mean me." "The only thing I ask before the end the show is that you leave BEFORE you finish clapping. That way it kind of feels like a standing ovation." "You guys have been great and I've been EVEN BETTER!" "Of all the audiences I have had you have certainly been one of them" Another great way to end is the finish on an adage or funny proverb or bit of random advice. E.g. "And remember, the only way to avoid getting parking tickets is to take your windscreen wipers off." |

When I was working comedy clubs, I had a really strong version of the Gene Anderson Newspaper Tear with a repeat and a cod explanation. The ending was so strong that I did not need an exit line. It provided my exit line for me.
