Coordinated terror attacks struck the heart of Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, Wednesday evening.
Here's the latest news reports on this ......develops (via Google News) NDTV has live footage available on the web. For those not familiar with Mumbai, the city proper has the world's largest population of any city in the world, at 13,662,885 people. It's 25% smaller than New York City, but has 65% more people! If you picture a city about the size of the city proper of Chicago, but with more than 4 times Chicago's current population, that's a rough equivalent of Mumbai. |

I wonder what sort of effect this will have on Idno/Paki relations?

Anything is possible, but the leadership in Pakistan has already publicly condemned these attacks.

Here's what is being reported so far, according to the India Times (As with any situation like this, you should observe the 24-48 hour rule):
* Around 150 people rescued from Taj Hotel * 2 terrorists shot dead, 2 continue to be holed up at Taj Mahal hotel: Police * 9 people detained: R.R. Patil * Deccan Mujahideen claims responsibility for attacks * 2 hostages shot dead in Cama Hospital * Army join in Naval commandos to flush out terrorists from Oberoi Hotel * ATS enters Taj Hotel to flush out terrorists * Encounter cop Vijay Salaskar dead * DIG Ashok Kante feared dead in attacks * ATS chief Hemant Karkare dead * 50-60 people held hostage at Taj Hotel * Serial blasts rock Taj * At least 20 terrorists involved in attacks * Foreign tourists, media reporter taken hostage in Oberoi * Colaba: BP Petrol Pump blown up * VT station cordoned off by the police * 20 taken hostage at Oberoi Hotel * 101 killed, over 200 injured in terror strikes across Mumbai * Firing outside Maharashtra Assembly * Blast outside Metro Cinema * 3 terrorists reportedly in Room no 631 of Taj Hotel * Blast outside Mazagaon Dockyard * 2 terrorists arrested * Blast outside Capitol Cinema * Firing continues at Taj Hotel * ATS officer dies at Cama Hospital Theories being tossed around as to "Why now?": * English cricket players are touring India for several matches, and this is a chance to hold British hostages (This makes the most sense, as much of the activity is concentrated in tourist areas) * Upcoming Indian elections * India is the only country to stand up to the Somali pirates |
