For some reason as of a week or so ago I no longer receive e-mail notification of private messages. As far as I know, I haven't changed any settings, my e-mail address hasn't changed, and the Café is not listed in my spam filter.

Any suggestions?

First step is to check your preferences. Make sure the Notify by email option is checked to yes.

I have also stopped receiving the notifications and my preferences are correct. Which is why I came looking for this thread.

Thanks,

Robert`

The alert system is working so we have to find the problem at your end. Since the Café is cookie driven, try deleting your cookies and see if that makes a difference.

The notification will only go to this address amosmc@bellsouth.net

I turned it on for myself and I am getting notifications with no problems. Did you delete the cookies as I suggested above?

Cookies, as far as I know don't have anything to do with Email especially since I access the Café on different computers -- and yes I have deleted the cookies and it still doesn't work.

I've been getting a good share of PM's lately as I have some books up for sale.
However, for about a week or so I have not been receiving any email notifications either. They just suddenly stopped. Yes, I have the correct settings as I know the in's and out's as it were as I own and run two forum sites myself. Cookies have been cleared but no go.

I don't get it.
Four more PM's today and not one single email notification.
I know everything is fine on my end as I'm getting email notifications from two other forum sites.

I'm not a tech person so I'm taking stabs at things I've seen happen in the past. Have you checked your spam or deleted folders? Make sure the Café is on you allowed list. The email notification comes from the Café and it's possible that your system has marked emails from it are considered spam.

No, that's not it all.
It can happen on occasion but such is not the case. As said, I own and run two forum sites so I'm somewhat up on these things. I have no idea what program runs this site but I have the distinct feeling it's pretty old! I've never been on a site where one does not get an email notification only if they started the thread! Most, if not all, will give an email notification to any thread that you are subscribed on and not only one that you have started. It get's pretty hectic in always having to check all of your post's to see if there was any further response to that particular thread.

But hey.....this is one heck of a site and with all the members here one can't go wrong! If I thought otherwise I would not be here! I'm more than willing to put up with the few pitfalls it may have as compared to the more recent forum programs. Steve does indeed have one heck of a site here! My hat off to him!

Gaffed, I've suggested everything I've seen in the past. The only thing I didn't mention was the possibility of a firewall setting. I assume you have checked that as you say you are very knowledgeable in this area.

No, none of these items are affecting it. For example, I don't have spam filters turned on, firewall settings are correct, etc... Not going to incorrect folders, none or my sttings have been changed so it has to be something on the Café side.

Thanks,

Robert

Everything is OK as for my firewall. Like said, everything was fine up until about a week ago and none of my settings have been changed. Just a minor irritation but an irritation nonetheless. The few times that this has ever happened on one of my sites some years ago was a problem with the "Tables" in the forum program.
I have no idea if the forum program on this site has the option of Repair/Optimize Tables but, if it does, that might be the problem.

I received several PM notifications by e-mail yesterday and today. It sounds like the messages never reach your computer, so perhaps your ISP set up a filter that flags the PM notices as spam or fishing attempts.

Thank you Curt. This very well could be. It has happened in the past. If too many messages are received from the same place, some ISP block the site. So far, only 3 people have said anything about this. I've contacted over 50 members since this problem was reported and none of them are having any problems. If it were a problem on the Café side, it would effect everyone and not just a few. I would suggest anyone having the problem should contact their ISP to check it out.

Yes, well considering all the members you have and if you have only received a few complaints it would not seem that it is indeed not on your end.

OK...now this is a challenge to me! I'll get it figured out somehow. If and when I figure it out I'll be sure to post it here so as to help anyone else who is also having the same problem.

As information, I have changed my notification e-mail address to see whether problem was at the service provider's end, and the results are the same - I am still not receiving notifications.
