I am new to this forum, and new to magic as well. I live in a smaller community without a magic store so I will need to make all purchases online. What are some reputable online stores where I wont get ripped off, and the products will come as advertised? Specifically I'm looking for a Thumb tip and some books at this point.
Thanks

You are probally about to hear from every member who owns and operates an online magic store telling you how great their service is, and some of them do provide great service. But, my recommendation for you is to find a brick and mortar business that has online access to their products. Find the nearest brick and mortar magic store to you and check to see if they sell online as well.

And now, I special message from our sponsors.(giggle):)...

The Magic Warehouse, Hocus Pocus, Elmwood Magic, Stevens Magic, Loomis Magic, Ronjo Magic and Denny & Lees are all good, reputable dealers that I've used often without any problems. I'm sure others will weigh in. Do a search, as well, because this topic has come up A LOT.
Good luck...

I strongly support http://www.shopmagicvault.com. They have the best prices of any shop I have checked out, and the owners are really helpful. At least check them out before you buy elsewhere. They will save you a bunch of money and never steer you wrong. Ive emailed them with tons of questions and requests and they helped me more than I can say.

I also like outlaw-effects.com for more unique stuff. They have some great mentalism stuff that no one else offers.

Both of them are active on the Café.

What kind of things are you looking for? Some stores are better with effects & tricks, some are better with books and DVDs. If you have a preference, I can help guide you to where you should go.

Hi Hazmat,

http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=41&91

This discussion seems to be always being kept alive- but personally I suggest MJM magic.
Cheers

MJM Magic and Wizard's Headquarters get my vote as BEST on the internet for price and service. For a real walk-in brick and mortar store (most are gone now as we all know and groan about), Misdirections in San Fransisco is killer. The prices there are higher out front, as it costs large for rent, especially in San Francisco, but it's nice to see a trick demonstrated before you buy it.

Thanks for the kind words clownmagic. We do everything we can to set ourselves apart from the many "garage and basement" shops that simply take orders and hand them to the supplier. We pride ourselves in doing business both online and offline, as well as maintaining a performing side of the biz... We do this for the love of magic - not the money (hence our prices! hahahah) We were silicon valley geeks during the tech boom, so now is the time to kick back and have fun with a biz that we can enjoy and know that we are helping others grow magic.

I have always had good service from http://www.shopmagicvault.com as well. If something is going to take a tad longer than expected he emails me and tells me, plus sends me a couple freebies as well.
Thanks Mark.

I buy a lot of things from http://www.shopmagicvault.com

They have great prices and the guys there are so helpful. I compared prices on a bunch of items and they were the lowest on all of them. Everything I got from them was good quality. In fact I ordered a hot rod that they special ordered for me. When it came in they did not send it to me because they saw a very small nick on the wood and sent it back for a replacement that was perfect. They are very picky about quality and I like that. They also toss in freebies. We all like freebies! I see they started offering free shipping too.

The other place I like is outlaw-effects.com. they have a lot of unique stuff. Not a big selection, but it is good stuff.

My other favorite magic store is the local craft store ha ha. All kinds of stuff there you can use.

I'll second http://www.shopmagicvault.com/ as well for online sales. Mark, the owner, is also often on the Café here.

Very much in the mold of dealers like Denny Haney (who is an excellent brick and mortar dealer with online ordering), Mark will give you tips on the effects, which are particularly helpful for newer effects.

I've had excellent on-line experiences with both.

This question comes up often and my answer is always the same

http://www.dennymagic.com/

Could list many, many reasons but I'll give you the best ones

You can call and speak to Denny on the phone just about any day of the year. Denny is one of the most knowledgeable minds in the business. If it's not good quality he won't sell it and always has a great book selection

There are scores of good online magic stores and most have already been mentioned. I try to stick with three so that I can maintain a good relationship with the staff. Get the name of the salesperson that you are dealing with. If you like the way they handle things stick with that person by calling instead of e-mailing. When you have a problem or need "inside information" about a trick you will get excellent service and advice. I have been steered away from some tricks because the sellers know my hands are very small, the quality will not meet my standards, or it doesn't fit my style. By doing that you will get the same kind of attention that you would get from a brick and mortar shop.
