I recently got the magic bug again after a long hiatus, and randomly found this site after a Google search. Here's a little about me.
My dad taught me a few tricks as a young child. (He was a teacher and occasionally used a little magic to entertain the kids.) He taught me a simple force and a sleight and a trick with them: after the card is placed back into the deck, the magician pulls out five cards or so. The cards are shown one by one to the audience, but the card is not there. Hand the packet to a spectator for the BOFFO ending: the magician slaps the card pack, and the cards fly, but the selected card is the only one left in the spectator's hand. I'm not sure where Dad learned that trick, but I still know it by heart, and I still think it's a great trick. I remember wearing out my Marshall Brodien Catalog as a child, poring over it. For several years I got a new magic kit every year for Christmas, but they had some good stuff in it. Fast forward a few years (into the 80s) I found a magic club at my university (Purdue). That was a great experience, and I really learned a lot those two years. I performed the Zombie Ball, did a routine with disappearing silks and a water bowl. I learned the Elmsley Count (and whatever the count is to reverse that... I can't remember right off). I bought a couple of packet tricks during this phase of my magical "career". Now 20 years later I'm getting back into it a little bit. I've scoped out a local IBM ring, and based on some of the advice in this forum, I've checked out Royal Road from the local library, and I'm hoping Santa will bring me the Mark Wilson course. So, here I am. Hi folks! -- Scott S.
