I have a question for you coin gaff experts.

Is the sun moon coin that comes with the Hopping Half set, the same quality as the stand alone Sun Moon from Johnson?

I have the one from an old HH set, and the half dollar looks fake.

I love the Sun Moon and want to step up in quality. I have a feeling the stand alone looks better.

I have numerous Johnson gaffs, including the SILVER Hopping Half set purchased here and believe the quality to be the same, whether part of a set, or not.

Newer sets from Johnson do to me seem better than older ones in terms of quality...

I would recheck the Johnson silver items at the warehouse. I buy wholsale from johnson and the silver hopping half sets are 115.00 with no discounts on silver products. And that with no exceptions. Make's you think...
Just try that’s all you can do , never give up .

You wanna know what makes me think? I buy silver gaffs from the Magicwarehouse and they come sealed with Johnson directions. They look and operate just like Johnson.. no question. (They are Johnson, as I have bought direct on occasion as well)

I'd like you to think... what is more likely?

That the magicwarehouse is openly selling counterfeit silver Johnson coins. (and has been for years) and Johnson has done nothing to try and stop them...

Or..

Maybe just maybe, your just not getting the discounts from Johnson that the
deep(er) pockets of the magicwarehouse is?

I don't mean to come off harsh... but I have seen you post implications like this a couple times before, and as far as I can see it's just not true.

If what I received from them wasn't Johnson, I'd be amazed. Quality was typical Johnson, as was packaging, and printed material included. I was VERY satisfied.

Shawn You might be very right on this. I bet they do get the deep discounts man and I will start buying from them instead. No Problem at all you didn't come on harsh just straight forward and that's fine. Johnson did tell me that the warehouse buys just as I do at the same cost but your explanation sounds more realistic Thanks again . PT

Cool man... I just don't want the warehouse getting a bad rap... I shop there a lot and really like thier service... so I just don't see that happening.

Giving it more thought... Warehouse prices could be based on their overall wholesale buying power. (across all products)

They could get some products at deep discounts while they get others at no discount... in the end (pricing wise)... Johnson silver turns out to be a good buy.

To the OP's question I have both a Hopping half set and a Sun Moon obtained separately. To my eyes thay are both identical in quality.

I also have an older set of HH - purchased in the mid 70's, back then their half shells were a bit funky in appearance, but the coppers were similar to current production.

Thanks Jordani,

Yeah my sun moon set from a HH, was purchased in the 80's, and the half dollar just has a real flat appearance to it.

It just has a dull flat sheen to it that doesn't resemble a typical half dollar.

I appreciate verifying that. I just don't want to buy another set and find they have that same look.

Have you seen any of the new Tango items?

I have not seen the very latest from tango but have seen a lot of their stuff. I have a flipper, e shell and a US quarter/euro 2c/1s. My only issue is that they use very new (>2000) halfs, and I have a supply of early 70's halves. I still think Johnson has the lead but to their credit Tango has been improving.

Is the Magicwarehouse the only place to get the hopping half set? I actually want the silver dollar Hopping Salf set in walking liberty ($105). I think they are out of stock.

I have been looking for the Sun and Moon Coin set but then realised the Hopping Half consist of the Sun and Moon set with few bits extra.

If you know where else I could get them, please PM me. Many Thanks

Bob

I have a Tango Hopping Half set and the half shell is not as deep as a Johnson shell. but no one has ever noticed or questioned the fact during a performance.
