I was very soory to find out this morning that Forrest J. ("Forry") Ackerman passed away on Dec 6th.
He was the editor of the origional "Famous Monsters Of Filmland" magazine (I still have all those early issues from the late 50's-'60's these issues got me hooked on movie special fx which led to the "live fx" I do now) and one of the greatest movie monster and sci-fi (a term he invented!)collectors and fans ever. I met him twice (in 1982 and then in 2000) and always wanted to visit his "Ackermansion" in Hollywood, "Karloffornia" as he always said. You can do a YouTube search for his interviews about the "magic" he loved so much, from earlier in his life to just about a month ago when really in poor health...but still spoke of the sci-fi past with a sparkle and passion. |
