I have a stainless steel maintance free appearing cane that cost 50$ and I was really happy with the quality. I also purchased a cheap 9.95 torch to go with it. For a while I was attaching the cane to the torch with the nut and bolt that came with it. I noticed it was tearing up my cane so I dug out the instructions, and they recommended to attach the cane directly rather than with nut and bolt. I had a guy help me remove the rivet and attach the cane and replace with a new rivet and it still tears up the cane. The metal is getting bent up on the inside. Not too much of a problem becuase the audience isn't going to see the inside of the cane, but every once in a great while the cane gets caught and doesn't fully produce.

Any tips suggestions, viewpoints?

Is this normal?

Thanks
Chaz

I too used to use that set up.
although I have a new spring loaded cane I can tell you how to fix this.

what I did was discard the nut and bolt and used a small paper clip then used electical tape to rape the paper clip. this protected the cane as well as kept it from getting snagged.

if you ned more detail let me know

good luck

Hey Sam

Thanks for the great tip! Do you remove the rivet, and replace the release for that the silk would normally be attached to with the paper clip?

The cane I had came with a little metal slide that was attacheted to the cane and then at the other end of it was the small hole for the nut and bolt for hte tourch.

I put the paper clip through that hole and then taped the clip. now you can still have the cane closed and just pull on the tourch and it would release however I woudl hold my thumb on the cane to keep it from releaseing until I wanted too.

It may be easier if I take some photos and atache them here later.

right now I am getting ready for a show tonight. I will see what I can do later tonight or tommorow for you.
