Michael Ammar, on one of his ETMCM series has a nice little 3 card monte using 3 cards held in a fan that change positions due to different areas of roughing. A very nice little effect.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Yes, I recall something from the Ammar series as well. Seems I sprayed half the cards lenghtwise for the effect. It's been a long time.
I'd much rather regret something I've done than something I was too afraid to do. Have a great day. Rachel.

I brought a can of Testor dullcote in Michaels craft store in Vancouver so I think it should be available in the Metro Toronto as well. You can check their web site for locations.

I have been manufacturing S&R decks for over 20 years and the best spray that I have found to date is "Rustoleum "painters touch" Matt Clear. Its adhesion is so tenacious, you can hand the deck for a spectator to spread and the S&R coating lasts a LONG time. It is also very reasonably priced. I do 10 full decks for about $4.00

Trying a search on the DVD's wouldn't be that big of a problem. It's the ones that are on the VHS's that I dread. You know, that fast forward button. Thanks! Sixten |

Hello edh
Rust-oleum has just changed the design on their cans as well as the code. The older cans will be 1902 MATTE CLEAR where as the newer cans will be 1902830 MATTE CLEAR. I have a new one. I just booked my friend J.C. Wagner to perform. What a great opportunity this will be to learn from one who knows. |

I once made an ID by running a strip of masking tape, horizontally, across the cards, leaving an area in the middle untouched by roughing when applied. This is suggested in one of the Workers series and it works great. I can quickly separate the pairs with no fumbling at all. |

Glad to be of help.
I had a Café member in my magic shop today and I showed him one of my S&R decks. He was impressed enough to buy a can of the "Rust-oleum" even though he had a can of another brand of S&R spray. The "Rust-oleum" is also very long lasting. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard Michigan Magic Day 2009 http://www.MichiganMagicday2009.com |

Sometimes the problem with Roughed decks isn't the roughing fluid coming off, it that the smooth side starts to become less smooth. (As with all decks of cards, finger old eventually makes them not fan like a brand new deck does)
So before reaching for the roughing fluid to repair a deck or if you are stuck at a gig at the time your deck starts to malfunction, first trying laying all the cards smooth side up on a flat surface and with a soft dry cloth buff each smooth surface to help shine it again. (Be careful not to buckle the cards: Be gentle!) Works wonders, it's actually more commonly the cause of malfunction than the roughing surface wearing out, it cost nothing and can be done at a gig and if all else fails and the deck still doesn't work, you can move on to a respray anyway.
Winner of the Dumbringer Award for total incompetence. (All years)

I believe it was Bill Palmer who suggested buffing the cards with a silk.

When using the Rustoleum "painters touch" Matt Clear, it is an easy matter to separate the cards by picking the top card up off of the pack; however, they do not separate easily side to side. If you half SR the pack you will find it easy to separate the cards side to side. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard Michigan Magic Day 2009 http://www.MichiganMagicday2009.com |

Jonathan Smith said "Women's hair spray, a light coat, works well." Hair spray works, but use the unscented type. Unless you like Strawberry scented playing cards.
For my use I still prefer the Rustoleum "painters touch" Matt Clear. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard Michigan Magic Day 2009 http://www.MichiganMagicday2009.com |
