I, too, use Humbrol here in the U.K. After initially covering myself with it, I found it to be very good for roughing.

I tried hairspray, but that left some white spots on the cards. It roughs alright, but it doesn't look well.

2) If you corner short each of the cards in your deck in the lower right hand corner, then flip one half of each pair face down LENGTH wise, you'll have a very, very easy way to separate them. Could someone explain this a little more clearly to me? What does the term "corner short" mean? |

I use Dullcote, and I use blue painters tape to mask the top & bottom
of the cards. I find this makes seperation very easy, by sliding fingers toward the bottom or top of cards |

How many coats do you spy on the cards ?

The real beauty of leaving the middle 1/3 uncoated is that you can spread with the tip of your thumb. Then, by just shifting the pressure to the ball of your thumb you will separate without changing the rhythm or position of your thumb. With practice, it becomes automatic. You won't even think about the mechanics. They just separate... like magic!

What's the name or brand for the R/S fluid that comes in sticks? I still use Aldini's one that comes with a small brush. Kinda delicate but the process is a lot longer than spray but less messy.

It sounds like you own Finn Jon's roughing stick, Saysold. Does it work well? Does it work better than spray? What is your opinion on this product?
Any other reply than Saysold who owns this product would be welcome. Thanks! God bless, Zachary Johnston :bluebikes: |

You know what? I have never in my life had the chance to try it - however there are opinions already out there:

In a pinch, you can use hairspray for roughing fluid. It's basically a water soluble glue. Use a light coat just like matte spray. I worked at Hollywood Magic in the mid 80s and one of the brands we sold was hairspray that had been relabeled 'Magician's Roughing Spray' Experiment with different brands first.
