The year is almost over. A new year is coming.

My question is, what were your big magic related purchases this year? I thought it would be interesting to see what type of magic people buy.

For me the big things were:

Backdrop stand (bought) and curtains (made) - $85
Lester Lake Guillotine - $350
Chair suspension (used) - $292
Fender Passport 250 (used) - $300
Axtell Drawing Board & CD (used) $98

What do you plan on getting next year?

Lighting system
Better performance outfit, possibly custom made (needed badly.)
Walking through a wall (custom built, yoshino method)

So, lets hear what you got this year and what your plans are.

I got a few books and some rope.

The biggest thing (for me) was a few free text files, that I can't discuss.

Largest Magic Item for 2008: Walter Blaney's Ladder Suspension and Owen's Croquet Illusion.

2009? I'm not really planning anything for the upcoming year, but maybe something will catch my eye.

Most amount of money spent on the smallest thing: The 3 volume set of the Jack Hughes books

Most amount of money spent on magic props: Thousands of dollars on a huge pile of wood, hardware, sandpaper and paint, that eventually became magic props. The props went to other people. The small profits and all the paint fumes went to me.

Most amount of money spent to maintain magic: Another year's worth of mortgage payments so I have a box to keep all this crap in.

$ 300.00 for a used pipe and drape backdrop.
$ 600.00 for a pair of speakers for the show.
$ 450.00 for a rack mount, dual CD, MP3 player.

Magic stuff :
For $150.00 total package price, I got a tip over trunk, a doll house that looks like a castle, an old set of nesting boxes, 2 Abbotts rabbit side tables, and several smaller items.

There are 2 illusions I would like to purchase in 2009,
A cube Zag.
The bow saw version of sawing in half. If I had an extra $700.00 I would snag the one that's for sale here in the Café.
Bob.

Its not super expensive, but it is large for my normal spending limits. I purchased a nice busking pouch from Frank at http://www.theambitiouscard.com and then I got some Gary Animal Love cups. I did quite a few shows out on the streets this year. So the prop purchases were perfect! Spend more, get more.

A splendid year for books. Dai Vernon's Revelation, David Ben's Zarrow, and Bruce Cervon's Castle Notebooks, to name just the highlights.

Next year Richard Kaufman's Mr. Jennings Takes It Easy, Geoff Latta's 2-volume opus, and David Ben's next book (no matter which one).

Most expensive purchase? Probably "The Secret Ways of Al Baker".

My Johnny Paul style cups come in a close second.
