I went to a store and bought an antenna that didn't work and they will not give me a refund unless I tell them my name address and phone number. I don't want to be in their computer system so I left without a refund. I'm not going to tell you the name of this Shack but it has something to do with radios.

I hate it when you buy something and after you paid them they give you their policy, Isn't that against the law?

While you will get a number of opinions, I'm not sure a bunch of magicians are the best people to ask for a legal advise...
If you are not cheating, you are only cheating yourself.

Dutchco is about to put out some new Ebook: DUTCHCO. Get 'em while you can.

What I do is give them the wrong address. If they check my ID against it, I tell them I just moved. Sadly, in the information age there is no realistic expectation of privacy. Before retailers caught on to data mining, they used to use this verification technique to catch shoplifting/return rings.

They always used to ask me my zip code at BestBuy and I would always say "90210". As I live in Arkansas they would always look at me funny - some would even say, "no it isn't" to which I would always respond, "Prove It!"

I tell them "I don't have a home or a real place to stay cause I'm living out of my car right now. If they can't accept that then maybe I should file a complaint at the Better Business Bureau. I'm laid off and have plenty of time write a letter."

When CVS or Walgreen or the pet store asks me if I have one of their savings cards I tell them "no, I'm allergic." That'll shut em up.

Find their website and issue a complaint there. I've always got good results doing that, you'd be surprised.

I used to work at the Walmart automotive desk, and we had to get the address of everyone we signed up, all I was told it was for insurance purposes, which made little sense to me. Other stores that I go to ask for my zip code, I've learned, by asking, that it's just for statistical analysis. Usually they ask if I want to give them my email or home address to receive information on promotions. So I do understand in some circumstances why they need an address, liability and all that, but in most cases it's fairly innocuous.

When I worked at Home Depot for $@#$s and giggles I did returns and they wanted the info to keep track of chronic return types. I, being a rebel, just put in phony addresses because it was easier than trying to get the info from people.

I've always lied there, and never had a problem. They've been asking that stuff for a very very long time.

I used to hate Radio Schlock, because they asked for your address and personal info even if you were just buying a 99 cent battery. It would take 15 minutes for one lousy transaction. But at least in NYC for the past few years, they've abandoned that policy--I guess they finally figured out they were driving potential customers away. Sorry to hear they still do it elsewhere in the country.

That's one thing I like about working in magic stores - you never have to deal with refunds!
