During a recent extended period of unemployment (not uncommon in Las Vegas these days), I had to cut back on expenses, and the TV was the first on the hit list (BTW, I'm employed again, and the TV is back). Certainly, there's much to do besides watch TV, but sometimes, especially late at night or days where you're staying inside for one reason or another, it's certainly helpful to have some TV to watch.
Because of this, I managed to find a wide variety of places to watch full TV episodes for free online. I thought I'd share them with you here: General TV: Hulu Fancast Joost AOL Television OVGuide (Online Video Guide) Find Internet TV Internet Archive's Moving Image Archive (Thanks to this, I have a new favorite old movie - It's A Joke, Son!, starring Kenny Delmar as Senator Claghorn) TV Shack Specific Networks: Discovery/TLC/Animal Planet Disney Channel TV Land truTV (OK, not full episodes, but most of their shows are so easily broken down into segments, that these segments are the best way to go for their channel.) Nickelodeon History Channel (Even if a show doesn't say "Full Episodes available", check anyway!) (check your favorite national and local news channels, too - they probably have video available on their sites!) Do you have any favorite places for online TV? |

Thanks for those links Scott!
Do you know if there is anything like this for National Geographic Channel? Rich |

Yep - here it is! It's mostly videos, but there are a few full episodes of National Geographic shows on there.

I found these new things called books. They have printed words, most are even structured into sentences and tell stories or information.
hehe I have tried hulu and joost. There was another one that had movies on there, but I can't recall the name at the moment. Too bad they are not all HD. |

One of the things I like about these sites is that I've been able to find stuff that I enjoyed, but just can't find on TV anymore.
For example, fun but short-lived shows like Whiz Kids or It's Your Move, or long-forgotten favorites like James Burke's Connections documentaries. OK, on the downside, they have got me watching Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, but you have to have some fun. |

I cancelled my cable over a year ago since I watch a lot of stuff on Hulu. But my main source of entertainment/news comes from Podcasts. Thousands to choose from, any topic you can possibly imagine. Besides quite a few on magic, I also listen to a lot of shows from Leo Laporte's TWIT network. Also Diggnation, shows from CNET, and from NPR, Jazz Profiles, and Wait Wait don't tell me.

I haven't had cable for quite a while and don't miss it at all. I assume that's what you mean by tv.
As for me, I got a subscription to Netflix with the instant view as well as three dvd's at a time. Loved it so much, I gave a gift subscription to a friend of mine for Christmas. Now he's thinking of cancelling his cable service too! (What have I done?) I, too, have discovered these strange things called books! I never realized that one could entertain oneself without the need for electricity! I discovered this archival footage that you might find interesting! I'm also beginning to dig into my vast library of dvd's on magic. So many tricks, so little time! Heck! If I'd just study a thousandth of the stuff I have on the subject, I'd have been a pro by now!

I forgot to mention, I don't even own a TV. My iMac is my media center with a little USB stick TV tuner.

I too no longer have cable and only use my computer or an antenna for my television viewing. I use an S-video cable to connect my laptop to my TV and I use the headphone jack to attach it for sound. I now have more options than I ever had with cable and I can watch on my own schedule. With Hulu, Fancast and Archive.org, I have thousands of movies to choose from for FREE and it's all legal. These are all legitimate sites.
With Archive.org, you can download movies and watch them with this free video player VLC Media Player. If you want to spend a little money, or use it free for ten days, with one of these programs Sony Vegas , you can burn your movies to DVD for future viewing. By the way, Archive.org has an excellent help section. Most of the major networks have their programs online. They usually put them up a day after they originally air. Check ABC, CBS, NBC, USA Network, Lifetime, etc. A friend of mine wrote about all of this on her blog, there is a bit more info there. Here is the link NetMouser Blog As I mentioned before, no more cable for me. There is more online and it's on my own schedule. Lynetta |

Thanks! QuickSilverScreen.com looks great!
Although I've learned to avoid anything that lists Megavideo as it's video source. You'll probably only be able to watch 72 minutes or so of it before it says something like, "You've used up today's allotted time. Please wait before viewing the rest of this video." Yeah, viewing the rest through a proxy works, but that's something you shouldn't have to do in the first place. On a closely-related topic, I remember a show I enjoyed from the late '80s that only ran for 7 episodes. It starred Parker Stevenson as eccentric millionaire and science genius Austin James, and Ashley Crow as his spunky sidekick Mickey Castle, and was called Probe. Since it only ran for 7 episodes, it's never been released on DVD, and never runs anywhere on TV. However, all 7 episodes are available online, as you'll see at the above link. This was a fun series, and I'm sorry it never got a longer run. (Trivia: Just 8 days after ABC premiered Probe, it premiered another series which lasted much longer - The Wonder Years!) |

Here's a free program HEREcalled "DVD Flick" that automates burning your downloads to DVD - quick and easy - and unlike some high-end programs it doesn't require that the source material be in 720x480 size (it takes care of that).
Works like a charm! |

Thanks Rossmacrae! I tried "DVD Flick" and you're right, it works like a charm. I downloaded a movie from Archive.org, "Here Comes Mr. Jordon", and burned it right to a DVD. If you're like me and love old movies and old TV shows, you will love this. I'll be building my personal collection. It's all legal and it's FREE!!

My favorite short-run TV show is Stuck by Lightning, which featured Jack Elam as Frankenstein's monster. Really. I haven't been able to find any episodes online. It only ran one season (79-80), and even that was probably only a partial schedule.
