My Last couple of strolling gigs I found I only need to carry about 5 items for an entire evening 2-3 hours of performing & the case of crap I used to carry is no longer needed, anyone travel lite like this.

I'm a minimalist and prefer to travel light.
The only case I used was for back up items and not carried during strolling. My preference is to to carry versatile props that can be used alone or in combination. |

I don't think you're lazy at all. When you become comfortable as a strolling performer, after doing it many times, you learn what works best for you. I used to pack my pockets like crazy as well. Now, I literally carry 1 deck of cards, sponge bunnies, a kennedy box, 3 coins with a [, and my chop cup with 2 final loads. I can perform for hours with this material because they are the strongest routines that work for me.

LOL.
I used to carry a small bag with some back up items in but haven't done so for years. With thought and suitable material you can carry an amazing amount on your person without looking too bulky. When I lectured on strolling magic at Funarama a few years back I walked on and then proceeded to pull about seventeen different effects from my pockets. More than anyone would ever need in any strolling environment. The content of that lecture and a lot more can be found in my book "Magic From The Overground". You are in no way lazy, you are simply becoming more experienced. And I'm sure if one of the items you carry is a deck of cards your performance could easily be expanded should that be required or a table revisited Paul. |

I think you are doing it right. Of course those here who say their tableside act is accompanied by music, that they use a PA system, perform Dean Dills Box (great trick), a full size zig zag, a black cobra deck, and close with the Chinese Water Tank might think you are working light.

I do sometimes bring a strolling table I made and a bag with plenty of extra material if I'm working bigger events like bank grand openings or large banquets. But mostly, I carry what I mentioned.

With me it varies. It all depends on what mood I'm in and what I can find before I leave the house.

When I was a Uni-student many years ago I worked at a family restaurant who catered primarily for kids and I wa the local Clown/Magician (more like a magician dressed like a clown) and even then I wore an apron with a few props in the front and that was it.
Now that I am too old to waste time like that I carry cards (two decks) some coins, Okito box ,a TT and business cards. I can get to a gig in Jeans and look like a regular customer. That is what I am aiming for though. |

Do you see the trend? We all start out carrying basically everything we own, then we narrow it down to about the top 5 effects we do the best.

I'm a minimalist. I carry
a memory card wallet with a few coins in it, a deck of cards, an invisible deck, a card in wallet, which also contains a packet trick that I like to do. I have a pocket chop cup that I carry with me, and a set of color changing knives. The pocket square in my jacket pocket takes care of the need for a handkerchief. That and two more gimmicks, and I have a show that I can do for several hours.
