Steven, Steven Youell,

Let's all remember sarcasm is derived from the Greek, sarx:> flesh. The second half means, pretty literally to tear, like dogs.

So simple insults like "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard." may be mean spirited and rude, but I didn't hear any ripping flesh.

Real sarcasm is like this:

Steve, your card magic reminds me of Glenn Bishop on a really bad day.

Love,

Kent

PS, I don't just speak sarcasm fluently, I invented it.

Kent,

Real Sarcasm would be something like "Steve-- we all know how timid you are in real life..."

Or how about this:

"Youell has cups, but no balls..."

Thank you! I'm here through Thursday!

Greg House is my hero!

On a non-sarcastic note:
What I prefer is to use irony without using a sarcastic tone. A sarcastic tone, by definition, creates irony (irony: implied meaning is the opposite of the literal meaning).

However, when you leave out the sarcastic tone, people just think you're a jerk. I like that!

So wait a minute-- are you saying I couldn't get someone here on the Café to call me a jerk unless I leave out the sarcasm? Are you daring me? 'Cause I'm tellen' ya-- I'm willing to wager money...

Dr's House and Perry Cox from Scrubs are my true heros!<----NOT sarcasm!

I always try to be kind, supportive and loving in all I say even if it means lying! I would never consider calling someone a bonehead, moron, idiot or half wit! I truly believe that the young magi of today have so much more to offer through their wonderful works on YouTube then any of the old grumps (sorry KG) could ever impart from their decades of boring study, practice and experience! Lets face it, a cool cat that's watched any of the Ellusionist vids and blown away his friends at school for the past 6 months is on the fast tract to stardom and some of the old farts (sorry again KG) are all hung up on books and practice!

Think about it....... would you rather learn from a grizzled old (I'm so sorry KG) vet that will probably criticize your card handling time and time again until you get it right? Someone that will forbid you to show off your chops before you can do a passable double turnover? OR, some young buck that has a HUGE collection of torrents and an autographed ball cap from Cris Angel that will help you with your video editing for your debut on the world wide web 2 weeks after you buy your first Tiger deck? You chose!

As for the topic at hand...... Blowing sunshine up someones arse will appeal to their sensitive side and therefore make em a happier magician and a happy magician is a talented magician! So NO, I don't speak sarcanise EVER!

Very truly and sincerely,

Mick

I like House better than Cox... Cox is like frank burns on Mash... nobody's really like that...

House, however, is a tortured soul in pain that has a human side to him... it rarely shows. He's also absolutely brilliant. Cox is just a punk.

Oh yeah, this thread is REALLY useful!

That phrase is sarcastic on at least three levels that I can see. It is also facetious with a slight sardonic twist. Not quite terse but by no means loquacious, I think the erudite and insensate alike will be ubiquitous in their effusive proselytizing.
