Hi all. I just finished designing my website, and was wondering what you all thought of it. What do I need to add/delete/change, whatever. Please let me know. Thanks.
The Magic of Jimmy Ragland It's on Geocities for the time being until I can get a contract with a server and a domain name. So right now I'm not promoting it to the pub |

Looks great! Nice work!
Couple of suggestions (because you asked!) More photos in the gallery would be good, and a more descriptive/visual page for your services. It seems that only the Home and the Services on the contents imagemap cause the correct rollover image to load (hope that makes sense) Designed for/on 800 X 600?? There are some things you can do to make it more dynamically sized (use percentages for the table size etc - Some of these features are not well supported however so you may be better to stick with fixed width?)

Good looking. But is the double frame needed. There are two scrolling bars. I would avoid frames as well. A personal preference. A site with few or no frames at all is more professional looking to me.
Just my 2 cents. Ivan

Jimmy,
Me again!! Also, with the layout of your page it might be cool to change the colour of the scrollbar to suit the style of the page better. You can include the following code in your stylesheet. body{ scrollbar-base-color: color; scrollbar-track-color: color; scrollbar-face-color: color; scrollbar-highlight-color: color; scrollbar-3dlight-color: color; scrollbar-darkshadow-color: color; scrollbar-shadow-color: color; scrollbar-arrow-color: color; } Change the word color to the desired colors. I have done a really ugly looking example on the following page (but you can format them to look pretty cool!) Check it out at http://www.geocities.com/czampese/index.htm Chris

Generally the site looks professional.
A comment about the content of the photo gallery - the general public is not interested in other magicians - they are interested in seeing YOUR performance - to them you are the same as M.A or M.F... Just a thought... PS I do not advise that you give out your phone number on the web - it is maybe better that people contact you by email. Sorry one last point - in the bottom bar it says "Done but with errors on page" - what might those errors be? |

Thanks for all the tips. In the photo gallery, those were the only pictures that I had on my computer so I just put them up. When the site gets on a server with its own domain name there will be performance pics. I don't know what the errors are, I'll check into that.

Nice site! I've done a few (as a volunteer and for a fee) and am also responsible for developing and managing my companies' website and intranet. My comments below make the assumption that your intent is to generate bookings.
You site is clean with content that is to the point: Who you are, what you can do, how to contact you. The mechanics of the site appear to be set to the greatest common denominator of technology (screen size, font style, colors), so everyone should be able to handle your site and the folks on dialup won't have to wait a long time. The content is all above the bottom 'fold line' so viewers don;t have to scroll down, too. It;s great how you have the content pages hyperlinked both by clickable tabs AND text. I might suggest bumping up the font size so it's more readable, if it doesn;t give you any additional format problems. There's no distracting fluff like long-to-load animations for the sake of the animations themselves, or music on the index page that repeats from the beginning every time you hit go back to it. What would you think of shaping your intials into a clean, memorable graphic that shows who you are and what you can do for the viewer- like the shape of a rabbit, hat or magic prop? Have you developed a business plan for your site? Looks like you're pretty focused and put a lot of thought into the site before setting it up. Is your website marketing to your potential customer base? That is, not the person who the entertainment is for, but the person who is doing the hiring? Is there any content you could (and want to) add that would keep people navigating through your site longer- and maybe even content that would help them form some kind of relationship to you? That's great how you have your show schedule on your site. Your reference page is GREAT!!! Can you get some quotes from these people to put there, too? Surfers that may not relate to company names or products may better relate to "He was so funny I felt good all week". Same with your bio page- instead of quoting yourself, how about the well know athlete you performed for? What would you think of changing the phrase from "did tricks for" to "entertained"? Can you add some photos that grab viewers in a way that the would say "I want that guy to come and do that for ME!". If you have a tool like ULead PhotoImpact or Adobe Photoshop you could do some very nice editing of the images to best showcase exactly what you are doing, and how much your audience is enjoying being with you. Once you get your domain name and host, how are you going to advertise your site? If you haven;t already, do a websearch for 'web site submission' to get a feel for the tool or service that best meets your needs. My favorite tool is 'SubmitWolf'. Once won't be enough, and some engines shut you off if you submit too often. You want to get a high enough score that surfers can get you on the first or second search page. It looks like your index page does not have any key search terms like 'entertainer - jacksonville - magician - parties - birthday - trade show", etc. Since you are probably going to get most of your bookings from the local area what would you think of searching the net for sites of all the businesses and organizations that people might go to to hire an entertainer in your area? Many of them will link to you for free, or at least add you to their list of 'places to go and people to know'. Like the chamber of commerce or other business sponsors. Maybe even offer to put links on YOUR site to advertise for local businesses and attractions and they return the favor? Best of luck with your site and your studies! |

Thanks for all the advice!! I've been really busy and haven't time to work on the site a lot, but I'll do what I can to fix it up some
