I would like to learn some nice flourishes, manipulations, shuffles, and so forth to go along with the bit of card magic I do. If I could only buy one or two dvds to learn what would you recommend? What do you think of the crash course from ellusionist? If the DVDs include effects in them that's a bonus, but I'm looking really for the flourishes and manipulations to add to the effects I already do.

Hey Ricky, I wouldn't go with Ellusionist DVD's if yer looking for flourish-type stuff.
I would recommend any one of these three: Extreme Beginnerz (De'vo) Show-Off With Cards (Magic Makers) Trilogy (Dan & Dave Buck) This 3xDVD set one has both flourishes and tricks I own all three and I think they're a great place to start. Cheers! |

Hey Ricky! I bought some Ellusionist DVDs when I was first learning to handle cards and they were a great jumpstart for me. So if you have no experience with cards, I would recommend them. I have crash course 1 and it's explained very simply and slowly. He shows some very basic moves and then a trick or two that utilizes it. I found it to lay a great foundation that you can build on very quickly and easily. However, I also learned very quickly that they are very good at marketing and once you have that foundation you get more for your money looking elsewhere. Also, as 'agent61' said, if you are looking for more flourishy stuff, Ellusionist is not the way to go. So basically, what I am babbling about is this: If you are very new to cards, give crash course 1 a try. If you're not, you're better off checking out some of the others mentioned.

Thanks, I appreciate all the input. Well cards are not my speciality but I do like to make basic but nice flourishes. I've learned the Charlier cut and thumb flourish from you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JwswM8_194
It helps me to save money for actual stage and close up magic rather than and accessory/addon to the actual magic effecgts. |
