Come see Comedian and Magician Peter Gross present Magic and Other Suspect Activities at this year's Charleston Comedy Festival (January 14-18). The show is the only specifically 'family'friendly' show scheduled at this year's festival, which has been bringing comedy to Charleston since 2002.

"I prefer 'family-friendly' over 'kid's show' because the show isn't written for kids; its a version of my comedy act I can do with kids in the room and not get fired. It's the act I regularly perform on Royal Caribbean's ships. These audiences are made up of mostly adults, but they appreciate me keeping it 'family-friendly'."

Still Gross wants the public to know he's just as happy for them to come without kids.In fact, Gross suggests "parents to drop their rug rats off at the Chuck E. Cheese’s, see the show and then drive back and fish them out of the ball pit, preferably before the manager calls Child Protective Services."

Peter Gross has performed in Holland, Belgium, Scotland, the English-speaking half of Hong Kong, and select islands of French Polynesia. He has been featured at comedy festivals including Boston, Vancouver and the world-famous Laughs Festival in Montreal. He has appeared at the White House, the Kennedy Center and is a regular on the ships of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

I was afraid of that. Do me a favor and check the Charleston Paper. They are supposed to be promo-ing it this week.

I'll see if I notice anything about it. There was nothing on it in todays (Sunday) paper. I'm also spreading the word around here. Hopefully it will be a sold out show!

Sold Out?! From your lips to Clapton's ears (on the theory that Clapton is G*D. If you have any last minute suggestions on getting the word out, I'm all ears. I am planning on billeting people as they leave the Thursday night shows.

Maybe we'll run into each other in this weekend.

Thanks for asking... The shows went great! Got lots of press, including an interview on Local Morning TV, and then sold out Saturday Night's show.

Here's the review in the Charleston Paper

I’d never seen a hypnotist show and worried it might be a cheesy spectacle, but Peter Gross is a pro — smooth and hilarious. He’s put 10,000 people into a trance-like state and assured the crowd that if they volunteered to go under his spell he would not be able to make them do anything they didn’t want to do. It’s not mind control — it’s suggestability. And he can only suggest you to do stuff to the limits of your own sense of decorum.

After giving his disclaimers, he then asked for 12 volunteers to get up on stage and get hypnotized. He dimmed the lights, got his subjects to relax, and started put them into a deep sleep. No pendulums were swung in front of their faces, but he did tell them to “slleeeeep.” Once he got them to slip into a trance, he weeded out the folks who were unable to really let go and submit to his suggestions. Finally, he ended up with a handful of VIPs (as he called them): an adorably buxom young woman, a pair of teenaged siblings, a guy named Earl, and a little kid who slept through most of the show.

Earl quickly emerged as the star. He was in a deep state and responded quickly and animatedly to Gross’ suggestions — to act like a playful 5-year-old, to squirt himself in the face with imaginary water, to forget the number seven, to enact a death scene in slow motion, to run upstage and accept blue ribbons everytime the word blue ribbon was mentioned. Ultimately, Earl was Peter Gross’ !@#$%.

Gross has two shows tonight — a family-friendly magic show at 5 p.m. and another hypnosis show at 8 p.m. I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do, but I’d suggest you get your tickets now.
