Ok guys, so I have to tell you about this nice little effect I've been carrying around in my wallet for the last few days

Jamie Daws' "The Gathering"

"Imagine having a card selected and signed. Then punching
two holes in one end of the card. The holes being about a
centimetre from each other. Then borrowing a finger ring and
visually linking their ring onto the holes in the signed card...."

This comes in pdf form, and from there I'll go ahead and break it down for ya.

The Method:

Very clever! This is SO clever haha. This is one of those effects that when you discover the method, you just think about how cool it is, and how Jamie could've come up with it!

Construction of the gimmick:

Jamie gives instructions on how to make the gimmick. It's very simple, although it will take some practice to get it just right. The items to make the gimmick should be around the house, so you don't have to worry about spending a lot of money (if you even spend anything)

Performance:

Here Jamie explains how to perform The Gathering. Straight to the point, but he adds in a couple subtleties which really make this thing look magical. Using the video demo as reference, it's easy to perform.

My experience:

Now, don't get me wrong, I like card tricks, but I'm always grateful when a card effect I like can lend itself to using something other than playing cards. The Gathering does just that, since this is easily adaptable to business cards.

Personally, I like the idea of having some business cards presetup (gimmicked, and then hole punched) in my wallet. I don't feel that this effect loses anything from having the cards already punched, besides, who walks around with a hole punch? This is PERFECT for when someone asks to see a trick, or when introducing yourself (assuming they have a ring on)

The business card can be used to provoke interest in you, and then obviously you make mention of the holes. A perfect way to show some magic without asking "Hey, uhhh do you wanna see some magic?" It's also great that they can now keep your business card; you've got all your contact information on it!

So let's look at the magic checklist.

Magic that is super practical? Check.
Magic which uses the spectator's item? Check.
Magic that can be examined? Check.
Magic that the spectator can go home with and keep? Check.
Magic that lends itself as an advertising tool? Check.


As well as performing The Gathering, this is a perfect effect to be used in a ring flight routine. Jordan Johnson also had the idea of using this with Tagged. Seriously, there's many options for performing The Gathering.

Watch the demo, it's just impossible.

The only con is that the gimmick takes a bit of practice, but that's not really a con is it? All we do is practice.


Jamie is also adding some extra business card stuff, which I'll be sure to let guys know about.

Honestly, no hype here, you WILL use this.

I'd like to know if the ring has to be on the end...I'd like to put the holes vertical under the King's ear and make a piercing joke or something for patter...is that possible with this?

sorry for the slow reply.

The gimmick has been specially designed so everything is well hidden. The holes cannot be punched elsewhere unfortuantly. You can however, have cards, business cards already set up in yoru wallet with the holes ready punched.
