Tom,
I mean this with no malice and hope that your "new baby" is all that you think and say it is..I cannot understand why the response here as been so positive. From your demonstration the T&R seems to have taken 1,000 steps backwards. Really hope your next "video" shows a long shot of you AND the newspaper in "FULL FRAME" .... Your bottom part of the restoration newspaper is cut out of frame so the showing of the restored packet is really meaningless in the "real world" Using this camera framing....anyone can perform miracles Can the restoration be done out in the open in full view? Do you have to "push" the restored packet against your body before openly displaying it? Also your grip on the newspaper just before the restoration is quite un-natural. Axel Hecklau's Newsflash has set the bar very high in all respects of torn & restored newspapers..It is as close to perfect as I have ever seen in the 50 plus years that I have been in Magic. Sometimes it's best not to try to re-invent the wheel. Good luck with your creation Myron Lowenstein

Sorry if this sounds like an ad but paying big bucks for a newspaper restoration is not necessary. My GOOD NEWS-paper RESTORATION ad says this: A newspaper restoration that doesn't require a new set of newspapers for each performance - is easy to perform - fits in your pants pocket - has a funny routine. Resets in seconds and is great for walk-around. A small newspaper is shown with many articles, ads and coupons cut from it. You reach into your pocket and bring out the exact clippings that were cut from the newspaper (your wife/girlfriend cut them out). After reading some very funny articles and ads from the clippings, the magic happens. SUDDENLY, all the clippings VANISH as the single sheet of newspaper FLASHES OPEN . . . COMPLETELY RESTORED. Comes complete with a ready to use PERFORMING NEWSPAPER (good for many, many performances), easy-to-follow instructions, with lots of instruction photographs, a comedy routine and more. Cost is only $25. Check out the video of me doing it at the Magic Castle on my web site: http://www.dickbarrymagic.com

Dick....
Your Good News Paper Restoration is very good and very commercial...I like it a lot (I saw you demo it when you were a dealer at Magic in the Rockies in Colorado a few years ago) ..... but it digresses from the issue of this topic...it is NOT an 8 page , real newspaper, Torn and Restored with a "Flash" Restoration...just as the "Chinese Laundry Tickets" doesn't fit into this catagory. @ eric:
I decided to sell NEWSFLASH by myself only. I think NEWSFLASH is a worthy piece in magic. I don´t want to be a part of a "cheap special offer" of a magic daler. And I like the contact with these magic colleagues who actually perform my version of this classic in magic. If you are interested, you can order it quick and easy on axelhecklau.com @ Tom Baker I am shure you made many thougts to your newspaper - but I can not see your improvement? All I see is the Tony Stevens "No Tear" idea (have you asked him?) and maybe a clean ending (but I can not judge this part because of the small videoframe.) But I see many many post about a "new great thing" I would like to advice politly to finish a work before hiping it. @ Dick Barry I like your newspapertrick too - the presentation idea is funny. But it has nothig to to with a classic newspapertear effect. Quote:

And it is even another effect - it is a "Blendo-effect" (hope you name it in English as we name it in German). If you like to restore something - the audiance must experience the destruction. Then you have the basic effect of "healing" and this is stronger than putting together some things) By the way a question. Has the price something to do whit the quality of a trick? I mean is a trick better, when it is cheap? Is a trick automaticly better, when it is expensive? Is a trick better if you have nothing to prepare and nothing to practice? The audience sees the effect only - not the work in avance. Tommy Wonder e.g. never worried any effort to get a stronger impact - and he created real miracles. If the effect is exactly the same, I would like to prefer the easier method or the faster preparation. If there is a possibility to reach a stronger effect I prefer the "hard" way. Because it is the effect only, that the people percieves. I think good Ideas are worthy and it is wrong to sell them under there worth. I think - if I use a trick or a idea in my daily work the price is not so important. Important is, that I think the trick is worth, important is, that the effect is as strong as possible. My opinion. Axel, as you know, I've both of your newspapers. They are excellent. Concerning Tom Baker's routine I've to agree what you say. And the small video clip seems to show that you've to pay a "high price" (handling...) to end clean... Jan

Like I posted on here somewhere (???)...I just wanted to get a video of this, in some form, on here as I'd talked about it for a while.
Since I was still getting getting a few parts of the "full" torn and then restored version better, I thought why not just show it as a quick "pre-torn" as this will work like that. Didn't even have any set "patter" for this as you can tell from "mumblin 'n stumblin" in the video!! I like the idea of having it come out of the bag, show all sides of the 'paper, tear it, restore it...then fold it back up and back into the bag. And hand that out if they want to check it out. Just want to make another way of doing this that at least will be called "an interesting routine" and be listed somewhere in the LONG list of guys that have come up with so many different versions. Gene Anderson and Axel definitly at the top!! Will have a video of the full routine sometime soon (and with better "framing" also!! The pieces didn't go on the floor!!;) |

The Axel demo looks fantastic, and I have a question. One of the things I love about the Anderson method is that the paper can be torn to shreds, showing lots of tiny jagged pieces, creating a sense of chaos and disorder. One of the selling points of this new method in the demo is that only three clean, easy tears are required. My question is, does it have to be done as in the demo, or can this method support sloppily tearing up the paper into tiny pieces?
Thanks! -Travis |

I even sometimes use Baxt's gimmick and Axel's paper fold with great effect. In that combination my set-up is just about 20 seconds or even less. |

Tom..too BAD some people are judging your effect for the "quick no tear version" you did!!
After all..from all the "where's the video???" and "zZZ's" and yea, "double zZZ's" I don't blame you for going with the much simpler version first. I PM'd you about wanting to hear more and sent my regular e-address on Yahoo. I have a card effect I'd like to tell you more about also that I've been doing for a few years...but more there!! "tophatter"..."...Axel's (Axcels?) blows this away a hundred times! & then some" Please don't go on YouTube and see any of the "torn and restored newspaper" ones on there!!! OOOhhhhh!!! |

Sorry - just a little remark (only to clear it a little bit)
My name is Axel (not Axcel or Axtel or something) ;-) By the way - many thanks for the compliments - I am very happy about that. In June I am going to come to America to give my lecture there, perhaps some of you could see Newsflash live then. |

Axel!! (I got it right!!)...what states and cities are you going to be lecturing in...and when!!!??????????
I really think you should do one (or two..or..??) in Michigan!!!!!!!!! There's a GREAT group (Ring 211) in Grand Rapids that you should do one for!! Maybe the one in Kalamazoo??? Definitly in the Detroit area???...how about all three since you'd be in the state here maybe??? Colon, Michigan IS "the magic Capital of The World"...so...!!??? Anyway...do hope you'll let us all know your schedule of "cities and when"!!! Would love to show you what I've been "working on" for the "T&R 'Paper" over the past several years!! You know...Gene Anderson is in the Saginaw/Bay City area...just a thought!! Think MICHIGAN for this lecture tour!!! |

Newspapers normally have page numbers on them.
But what if I want to hand out the newspaper to someone after I did the trick. Because sometimes there is a page missing. And so the people can see that there is a page missing. How can I solve that. And which version do you think is the best to use on the streets. |
