I am WORKING on that...between that and getting the "family room" painted for my wifie!!! Gotta keep 'em happy!! (if it was up to me...I'd have kept it the way it WAS!!!...but oh well a big screen TV in there so what does it matter!!)

I like the idea of handing out the restored newspaper with a business card in each of the eight of the restored sections (two large sections that make up 4 double pages...eight pages in all...and each one with your business card or "newspaper ad" in each section!!...you could even tear it again so that it's back in sections so these all could be handed out!!!...or let the spectators do it!!??

I'm currently working on the Anderson version as I like the rough tear and the flash restoration. The Tenyo video was good but I found the Japanese patter one is required to learn a bit of a stumbling block!

Keep up the good discussion guys.

Let me explain my question better.
In the versions where you have no or very little preparation to do, there is (always) a page missing after you did the restoration. And the people can see that because of the page numbers on the newspaper.
What I am looking for is a way to literally go to a store, get a newspaper, tear it up and restore it. And after that hand out the newspaper to someone and let them examine.
Does anyone have an idea if there is such a version, or knows a way to do dis with any of the versions out there?

I think the simple answer is no - there isn't a method that will achieve this.

To start with, I've never seen a method for tearing up a whole newspaper - if there are much more than 4 pages (2 double sheets) you simply won't be able to tear through it when you get to the 2nd or 3rd tear. Even if you were only really tearing one page - it won't look convincing if you are hiding the bulk of a whole newspaper.

Even if it was an extremely thin newspaper with only 4 pages, I'm pretty confident that no currently published method would allow you pick up a genuinely unprepared newspaper that you hadn't seen before, tear and restore it, and then immediately hand it out for examination.

I know there is a version that doesn't need any perperation, and that is called Tear Down from Andrew Mayne. But the thing is that there is a page missing after the restoration. And because of the page numbers the people can see that there is a page missing. So that isn't the one also.

Is there a version that wil come close to what I want?
And the newspapers that I was planning to use, aren't that big (maybe 5 pages).

I don't believe that the Gene Anderson version has a page missing after the restorration. Slydini's version only used one sheet (4 pages of a newspaper) and so there clearly isn't a missing page as it is only that one sheet.

I used to do the Anderson version when I was in my teens. I started doing more true close-up impromptu magic so I stopped doing it. However, I recall that it was always a shocker when the paper just popped opened and restored itself. It is visually amazing. However, it works best for a parlor kind of act or a stage act where you can just move on to the next effect because of course the paper can't be examined.

However, of course both Slydini and the Anderson version required prep. Slydini claims in his book that the prep takes only 5 minutes but I think 20 is more like it.

Mike, I am a working pro and have used Baxt's newspaper tear for years on ships. My main reason was the reset time with Baxt's newspaper tear over every other newspaper tear on the market. I've done them all from Slydini to Harbin to Anderson etc.
I bought the Axtel version and have to tell you, the reset time is exactly the same for me. I changed Axtel's version slightly making my reset the same as Baxt's newspaper tear. The most amazing thing about Newsflash is the restoration - it is incredible. It's as close to what would happen if you could peform real magic and a torn paper was restored!! It's the best flash restoration I've ever seen.
My reset time is probably less than 30 seconds now on the Axtel version. I am using this now and it's incredible. Unlike Baxt's version, Axtel does NOT use the Anderson folding sequence. I actually find Axtel's method way easier to perform as well. It is without a doubt the last word in Newspaper tears.
If you follow the instructions on Newsflash the reset time is probably less than a few minutes, but that is way too long for me because I don't have much time between shows. I changed the handling slightly so now the reset time is very quick indeed. As I said, I have it down to less than 30 seconds.

Hope this helps in your decision. If you love newspaper tears get this and you will always be using this version.

I so appreciate your insight of this classic trick. There are so many variations of this product. I didn't know which I wanted to carry. This will help me in making a better decision. I think I will end up carrying Axtels based on your review.

Did I amagine it or was there some posts about what I'm WORKING on here earlier today that aren't on here now????

Guess I need to go see "Dr. Zip" again!!

And some about going to a news stand...buying a 'paper...tearing it and restoring it right there???

The way I'm WORKING on this...as long as you fold the 'paper as you show it (so it has all the "folds" in it that it'll have when it comes back)...I have practiced doing it this way so you COULD do a "bought...folded...torn...restored... and handed out 'paper with what I have!!!)

Like I've mentioned on here (different places???)...I LIKE taking the FOLDED 'paper out of a sandwich bag (it does keep it from getting wet from rain...snow(here in Michigan!!) sweat (still HOT in the Summer!!)...or pocket...or both...as it gives a reason for the FOLDS in the 'paper...so when it comes back...they're still there and the 'paper can be folded back up...put in the bag (or pocket...or handed out or whatever!!...with the folds still there!!

Also...something I thought of just this week THANKS to our nearest "larger city" newspaper...it came with a "schedule" for the nearest pro minor league baseball team "STUCK" to the front page!!! This made me think that with the way I do it (OHhh would this ever work NICE!!!) you could show the 'paper and mention the "ads" (business cards) or whatever with your "magic info" on it...and EIGHT of 'em stuck to the inside of the eight pages...so when the 'paper is restored...you can slowly and openly...(again) tear the restored newspaper ( 'paper!!??) into eight pieces (with two tears)....not into 64 pieces like with the actual routine...and hand out those 8 pieces with your business card(S)...or "info article" for those interested to have and keep!!! The spectators could even do this themselves if they wanted...but probably better if you did it for 'em and then handed those 8 quarter piecse/business/info/articles cards out!!

If you're doing "close-up" before the main show...you could also take this 'paper out after your card fx or whatever...show 'em the "ads" you have in there...have 'em SIGN the newspaper...and use "it" for the main show...hand it out torn again with your "8 "infos" in there...and their signatures!!

Anyway...still having FUN getting this so it works really EASY and nice!!!

Watch for a video of this when ready...just GLAD to get the one on here of the pre-torn version...even if it was a "quick thought" to post one of this since I'd told guys that I was gonna have one on here sooner!! (better a quick anything that nothing!!!)

Thanks for the positive posts...even IF they are "gone" now!!!!?????

OHhhh! I've messed up yet AGAIN!!!

The posts I thought were "gone" were in the "Secret Sessions" place in the "Banquet Area"!!!!!!

No wonder when my parents used to ask "so...how many grades to you have to go in school??"

I'd say like "3 grades"

And they'd say "..so that's like 6 or 7 years...right!!??.."

Like I always tell people...when I do magic..I NEVER make fun of people that help me with close-up or on stage...I have TOO MUCH "material" to joke about with me!!!

I treat them like royalty...like we all should.

It would take some practice...and some "handlings" to do this...but very possible.

Thing is..IF you did just buy a paper and do a t&r...not many people are going to see it (just the ones there when you did this)!!!!

Better, I guess..to have one pre-folded and everything ready and do it that way!!

It does take EXTRA time to fold the paper as you show it...and many people want to see some "magic" ready to go...with no delays for the time to do it this way!!

Still an interesting idea!!

That's not entirely true, because when you do it on a busy hour with lots of people on the streets and stores, then enough people will see you perform.

But yes your idea is something to think about.

Yesterday I made a NEWSFLASH workshop in Mainz/Germany on the 2. Mainzer Magic Festival and I find out a different way to handle Newsflash (same prep.)
It´s the "garbage" version for those magicians, that doesn´t whant to perform elegant.

What do you think?

The garbage version looks very nice followed by a very graceful restoration. Smile Smile

Thank you for sharing.

P.S. I rate NEWSFLASH as one of the best T&R Newspaper trick.
