Murf's answer makes sense...if there was a typo in the puzzle.
Perhaps "tried" was supposed to be "tied."
I knew "sound" was a stretch, but couldn't come up with any other
word that rhymed with "mound" and meant "tried."
(I was thinking of "sound" as a synonym of "tried-and-true.")

What does "bound over for trail" mean?

And how is it a synonym for "tried"?

John,
Would you please compare your clues for #5 with your Battaglia source
and verify that "tried" (rather than "tied") is correct?

The word should be "tied", not "tried".

Therefore the answer word that corresponds to "tied" is "bound".

Looks like one of my messages got lost in the ether.

"Bound over for trail" was a typo --- I was trying to say "Bound over for TRIAL."
