I put my bid in, but I am of limited funds at the moment we could say.
Even though I want them, I thought I'd mention them here for some of the serious collectors. Magicians helping Magicians! |

It was my first set of cups. I think I bought'em for $75 from Magic Inc. They were great to practice with, but once I got my hands on a more "Paul Fox" style design, I thought that these felt so clunky and I got rid of them.

I always like the style of the Miller Cups, but I agree with you. A rounded top cup really hugs the hand nicely.

I love these cups, and the original Ross Bertram cups on which they were modelled. They are rock solid and have a great clacking, clanging (?) sound when slapped together. They feel so substantial in your hands. And they look good too, either in highly polished form or in the dark caramel colour that will develop over time if left unpolished. The design of these cups also has historic appeal. The design brings immediately to mind the centuries-old cups depicted in Hocus Pocus and in Ozanam. The only drawback is that the saddle is a bit shallow and as a result using balls larger than 3/4ths" will be a bit of a challenge.
If past auctions are anything to go by, the Charlie Miller/Magic Inc. cups now up for auction on Ebay (which appear to be in pristine A+ condition) should fetch $200 plus, even with allowances for the recession-driven downward trend in prices. I feel a strong personal attachment to my own Charlie Miller cups because they were the cups that sparked my interest in collecting. They were my first "serious" cups. I well remember the pleasant sensation of opening the package and feeling how weighty they were in comparison to the flimsy aluminum cups I had been using up until then. It was an epiphany for me. These are cups of substance with timeless appeal. I agree with Pete. Grab them if you can. Fortasse |

Last year at auction I got two Miller sets: the copper (with the dark caramel patina described above by Fortasse) and the rarer set of nickel-plated coppers. Both sets are wonderful to use. Fortasse is right about the saddle with the Millers, but to me that's not a big deal. The weight of these cups in your hands lends an extra feel to the routine somehow.

I learned from Jay Marshall that the nickel-plated cups were never a regular issue, although there are a few sets of them out there. Tom Frank made a few sets of plated Phoenix cups as well.

These are my second favourite cups and I was lucky enough to score a set a few years back on E-Bay for under $50.00 if I remember right. They were mis-labelled om the site so I think they flew under everybody's radar which is why I got them so cheap.

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

If you know someone over here that you trust, you can have him ship the cups to them, then have them shipped to France. I sent a message to the seller to know if he is ok to ship to a different address from my paypal account. Sometime they accept. we will see... |
