I've been trying to come up with a dove routine with an ending that does not include a vanishing cage or a vanishing dove! I want to try to come up with something that breaks the mold, but I'm having writers block and can't come up with anything! Also any type of snow storm is out due to the fact that I use it in my card manipulation routine at the end and I have a Rabbit but I have a special routine for her. I was trying to maybe come up with something with throw streamers, but what I don't know.
I will now turn it over the Café for some ideas because there is some great thinkers out there. Thank you, Jeff

Dove toss vanish to streamers (instead of the usual silk)?
Check out Jason Byrne on youtube. He has a really nice ball to streamers in his dove act. Hope this helps! Ed |

One of my acts ends with an appearing cane. Jason Byrne ended his routine with a double cage production.

I've seen Jason's act and it's great, the style of jacket I'm wearing is a duster style tuxedo jacket and I'll be wearing the jacket for 25-30 minutes after the dove act, so any type of dove toss to whatever is out.

You can do doves to girl illusion. so far Lance Burton only did it on his tv specials but not on his vegas shows.

Dove to botania. Look at the Dove pyramid which has no cone.
Horace Marshall years ago developed his Dovetania as a finsih to a Dove act when everyone was doing Channing Pollack's cage. I still make it but call it the 30 bloom on a tray. Richard

Hey guys, I'm sure Jeff appreciates all the suggestions but I think his opening sentence is being ignored. He's looking for an ending with something other than a dove vanish.

How about a transposition. I do a vanish of 2 doves ala where did the ducks go, but then of course they reappear in an instant across the stage, thus most people don't think of it as a vanish but a transposition or teleportation. If I'm using my doves, I normally end with that or the Doves to Rabbit.

In our "I've Got This Friend" routine, doves that have appeared and vanished, reappear in another (apparently empty) cage that has been set down stage in front all the time! The doves reappear and all is fine. Everything is accounted for at the end.

Okay here's the break down of the act:
a. Walk out on stage with a torch in one hand and produce a silk with other hand, then torch turns into cane. b. Gloves to streamer, produce a rose & then produce first dove. c. tap rose on hand a produce a red silk, then do the 20th silk routine with the aid of a mir***ed glass then produce second dove from 20th silks. d. Then I go into a 3 candle routine with fantasio's candles & produce dove at end of that. Then I don't know, the song I have is 4:20 long and I have about 15 seconds till the it ends with a nice boom. I don't what to do any vanishes because I will be wearing it for 30 mins. after that and I have no assistant to help me, plus the produced doves will be in a box (that's big enough for them) behind my drop box, the audience can't see them after I put them in there and then I close the lid to hide them for the rest of the show and that's were the stay. I want something with a nice Flash to it or something with a Pop.

I'd take a look at some appearing cages, seems to fit your what you're looking for. As Dave Scribner mentioned, Jason Byrne produces two of them to end his act. Actually, I think he is the only "pro" I have seen yet who doesn't vanish their doves...
Are you going to be doing card manipulation during the same show? Fan2See is always a terrific finale and could be worked in as a surprise at the end of your dove act. C

Do a body load and produce a bouquet or botania as a finish. Or maybe a large 6' silk which could be loaded.
BTW, you are going to have problems performing the torch to cane because of fire laws. Richard

Live animals will also be a thing of the past soon. Look at the regulations that the circuses face for using elephants and the rules for magicians using rabbits. Did you ever wonder why so many of the top dove workers are not working steady? Live animals are being targeted by PETA and other groups.
I agree the fire laws are a pain but there are lot of people that were very irresponsible using fire. Before the great white incidence, I can remember guys setting firebowl flowers on fire, lighter fluid on table for dove pans, etc.. We brought a lot of this on ourselves. Richard

Lots of "pros" do not use a vanish to end a dove act. There are many options available.
I would suggest opening your mind to think along the lines suggested by Richard. A large item production of anything would work as a great finale to the dove act. If you're doing candles, then think about maybe producing a candelabra. Richard suggested flowers, and you might also consider silks. There are lines of silks, silk streamers, 6' silks and more to consider. Think of a production item that produces a ton of different silk items. Fill the stage with them. Consider doing a quick change. There are gimmicks out there for a little over a hundred dollars that will allow you to do a costume change. The idea is, just about anything that can be done to music can be manipulated into an ending. Think outside of the box. Forget about what you've seen others do. Think up something that you'd like to be able to do and good luck to you! |

The fire laws I already thought of, before I go to a place I will ask them if the allow fire and if they don't then I will change the torch to a feather plume.
C, yes I do a card manipulation in the show at the end with a card into snow storm for a finale. I played around with a fan to see the I built and I have other plans for it. I also thought about the appearing cages but I'm not to sure about that. Last night I was playing around and thought that maybe if I produce a cane at the start why don't I do a cane vanish to silks or feather flowers ( Richard's idea ) and confetti at the end? RJE, That's what I'm trying to do is think out side the box, but for some reason right now I'm have a creative drought, and by asking here I'm getting little drinks of water to help me clench my thirst.

I'm all for producing some flowers or other producton items, but in my opinion the end to a dove act should involve a dove.
If you can't afford a vanishing dove cage, or think its done too much, why not try a doves to rabbit cage? If you have no rabbit you can use feather flowers, balloons, anything you can fit in there really. For a cheap solution... Before I got better props I used to close with a take apart vanish that was filled with white rose petals. It got excellent reactions. You place the dove inside... take it apart piece by piece, leaving the front as the last piece. take off the front and throw up the bottom, nice shower of rose petals... Add glitter if you will be in a spotlight, looks fantastic. I still use this trick but now its not the closer. Always gets a big ahhhh and it costs like 30 or 40 bucks if you shop around, especially used. I had this take apart vanish forever just sitting on a shelf. I was glad to get some great reactions with something that was sitting unused. Try it... You'll be glad you did. Steven |

Haywire, he cannot end with a dove in anything other than a normal cage because he has to continue and leave the doves in the cage.
I've been racking my brain for you, man... But I am coming up a blank as well. C

Yes he can, simply go under your table or into a drop box of any type, release the dove from the take apart prop while you get another prop for your next effect.
You don't always need an assistant for these type of things. I used to use a big tupperware bin for this, placed on a chair just behind my main table. No one ever knew any better. The dove is released, I got a silk from the same bin,and went into another effect. The Dove is safe in the drop box till the end of the show. Steven |

In my opinion the dissapearance of one dove in mid air is still the best ending.
