I have a few questions that I'd like to propose:
Does it really help to have an agent? How many of you actually use an agent, and if so, about what percentage of your gigs are booked by an agent? How does one find an agent? Take care, Craig Wilson |

100% of my shows last year were booked direct. I personally don't like using agents.

What type of clients do you intend to reach?
If you intend to achieve a strong penetration into the corporate market, it may be wise to network with agents, event planners and speaker bureaus. I speak from experience when I say that a symbiotic relationship with an agency can be quite profitable provided all of the marketing agents within the agency regularly attend your performances and spend the time to really inform themselves about your product(s). The downside of signing with an agent is that you are no longer the contact person for marketing your product. If something should go wrong within the agency, or if they suddenly cannot fulfill their financial commitment to you, you may find yourself basically starting over. Today, approximately 40 percent of all of my bookings come from agents and I am happy to pay their fees. The high level of clients I am exposed to is well worth it. |
