Hey folks,
Having a recent mouth string break on a hard figure, I'm wondering if any of you have tales/experience with this happening at a gig. Do those of you with hard figures have a "replace the strings" schedule? Do you have an instant routine for "when the string breaks"? Do you keep a backup duplicate? The string break I just had, you could not tell visually it was going to go, it looked fine...totally unexpected. It was however, from a 20 year old figure that might have still had the original strings. AC |

I experienced it twice DURING a show--once with my Lovik figure, and once with my the Mack-Marshall figure.
I simply turned the head 180 degrees and the figure told me he had neckache and can no longer turn his head. We did a few more conversations and I had to get him out and start a new routine with a hew figure/puppet. I learned my lesson. Now I inspect the inside of the head of all my hard figures and make sure that there are no frictions on the string while it's moving. I haven't had the breaking of the string experience since then. |

I did once. In a moment of panic I came up with the idea to reverse the rest of the routine, so I threw in some comment that now the dummy was going to be the vent and me the dummy. So the dummy spoke in my voice without moving his lips and I moved mine and spoke in the dummy (reversing lines of both characters), got through the routine and it went over amazingly well.
