Has anybody heard anything about the "Twilight Angels" deck? I have to assume that it's not likely given all the USPCC drama, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Last update from Tim was that they were working on it.
I know that things are a little slow at USPCC right now with the move to their new facility. So I think there's still a possibility that it's coming, but the process is just taking a little longer than usual. Kevin

PM him and I am sure he would be happy to email you a copy of them. He did a great job on them. Oh yea, he was posting about them on this topic back on page 29 around Feb 19th.

Okay, so if you follow my video reviews of the True Astonishments DVDs, you'll know I was on the fence about The Big Tiny... I was enthusiastic about the idea itself, but didn't like it because, frankly, the effect makes little sense as presented.
Finally, I sat down with the thing... and thought of something that actually makes sense... granted, it doesn't make COMPLETE sense, but at least everything is more justified. I'll give you the script here, and would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. "Alright, so as it stands, this deck is MY deck... I own it, I purchased it, I'm the only one who has touched them. Even if I gave the deck to you, it would still be my deck... it would just become MY deck in YOUR possession, see what I mean? There's only one way to make this deck yours... if we personalize it." "Now, I'm going to have you sign your name on this deck. Now, if you only signed ONE playing card, you'd only own that ONE playing card... therefore, you need to sign all 52 with your name. Go ahead... I'll wait" (Plop deck onto table and relax for a moment... no too long so they actually do start writing on the cards, just enough so they pick up the deck in preparation to carry out your instructions) "WAIT! This could take a while... but I just had an idea. You can sign all 52 cards at the SAME TIME! Want to know how? If you sign here, on the side edge. Now, to make sure you 'own' all 52 cards, I want you to try signing your name from the very top to the very bottom, getting ink on all of the card's edges... make sense? Ok, go ahead." (Let them sign the deck, take it back, do the required "shuffle") "So even though your name is now all jumbled, it's still your deck. I'll prove it to you. We'll make four piles of cards, and you get to decide where each cards goes... in the first, second, third, or fourth pile, and we'll do this with the entire deck." (Let them do the dealing procedure, until all 52 cards are used) "So, essentially, you've mixed up the deck even further, correct?" (Let them see the rough edges of the piles, exposing the jumble of "ink dots"... hold up a single card, letting the spectator's see the dots) "See that? That was your name! It still is... it's only smaller. But let's make it a little bigger... it is your deck after all. Take your index finger, and slowly rub those ink spots for me please." (Let them rub the side of the packet, revealing the tiny version of their name. Do this with all four piles) "There we are, four mini versions of your own name. And you can keep the deck... it is your deck, after all" Thoughts?

I like that presentation as well, I like it very much. Shall we call it the Michael Mystic Big Tiny presentation?

FYI for everyone. The Paul Harris Presents site ( http://www.paulharrispresents.com ) will be the only magic site that will be carrying the original collector's edition TA Box set, which has the locking puzzle lid and wooden dvd rack.

The only thing I didn't like about Ripped and Fried was that you had to do some dirty work before the effect. I figured that you can do this completely impromptu because if you do that preparation in front of them, telling them that it'll make it easier to tear through the cards since you'll have to tear through four layers of card. They'll buy into it. When it gets to the point where you tear through the cards, it no longer makes any sense (what you did and why you told them you did it doesn't add up because of the positioning of what you did to the card) but it will fly right by them. You restore the card and that's it. You can do it anytime with any deck and use any cards from the deck. Those who own TA will understand what I'm talking about. Please let me know what you think!

Do you really get away with the preparation in front of the audience...? Is this something you have actually done, or just throwing out there for discussion?

By preparation, I'm not talking about the secret move, I'm talking about the setup/preparation. No I haven't tried it yet but I sure will because I'm almost certain it'll work. There's no reason why it wouldn't.

I like PatrickGregoire's idea of making Ripped and Fryed completely impromptu. That way you could do a few other card effects first, letting the audience examine/shuffle the cards, etc. But I think the prep could be done in front of them with less potential suspicion being placed on the cards used.
What if you prep two cards in front of the audience as if they are only one? Tell them you want to test the type of paper used in that deck to see if it is "healable" paper by ripping one sacrificial card. When the prep is done say that the paper is good, put both cards on the bottom of the deck, as if one, and jokingly say "You don't think anyone will noticed this slightly damaged card do you?". Then slide off one of the prepped cards from the bottom, laugh and say "Yea you're probably right." Then rip it in half and throw it away. Now you have a prepped card on the bottom of the deck and are ready to go with Ripped and Fryed.
