This is nothing against Jeff mind you, it is more of an attempt to wipe out the last few remaining mullets on the planet for the good of mankind. So if you happen to be one of Jeff's close buddies, for the love of god tell him the mullet has to go. The brotherhood may owe him a pass on it but the average laymen still sees a guy in a mullet first and then notices that he is shooting cards off the floor and doing other amazing things. Quote:

In regards to Stapled Warp, I can understand how Paul and Bro easily "hallucinated" the ending for the trick. While I was watching the performance, I felt prepared for such an ending because after watching the card go in and out a few times, my mind was conditioned to anticipate that. Now, in the end I did see that nothing changed but just that brief moment of anticipation and then the casualness of the final display as well as the cards coming out of each respective half one last time, one can definitely easily confuse themselves (I think for the ending, if you fully push each half out of their respective half card, there will be no backtracking possible with your spectators and they will remember it changing one last time). It's all quite good and I have a suspicion that a lot of magicians will probably end up not adding some of the best pieces of magic from TA to their arsenal just because of how overly simple a lot of the material is. There's a ton of AAA material on the set but there's also a wealth of knowledge that can be gained from studying the construction of the routines.

About Stapled Warp, I think personally the biggest contribution it has is it's great structure where cover is added to show that maybe something is happening and that you're manipulating the cards, but in the end, all of that is proven wrong with the open change and the tear. When I saw it, I saw the final part as a display to show that the rip somewhat created a rift in the weird warp, but that's just my perception. This is near the top of what I want to try soon.

Thank you all for your kind words! I have only sent out 47 so far...
You know... one of these days I am going to meet someone, and they'll have these cards in thier set... even though my name is not on them, I'll know it was me that created that. Remembering that they were originally going to sell for $199.99, but I gave in and offered them to the community of TA lovers. The feeling of contributing in some small way to the project, makes me happy... (I kinda sound sappy right now!). I hope you all enjoy them, and if anyone else is interested, I'll gladly send them to you. Just drop me an email, and I'll email you the document. (it's Microsoft word format). magicaltrix@gmail.com

Hello to all...enjoying the on-going TA buzz here.
Ezekiel...THANKS...what a considerate and helpful gesture..and very well done at that. Regarding the stapled card warp... I have noticed many percieve the piece as Paul and Bro (both human) did...it is not uncommon for tricks to be "mis-remembered" when described later. I seldom correct an audience member in this, as often their descriptions are better than my actual effect. If you want to actually push for this (mis-interpretted) effect...without drawing attention to it with words...casually cross your hands at the wrists AS you push the cards thru the finally time. I have no idea why this works..but it seems to add to the confusion. <--- absolutely unnecessary btw. I have posted some Tensegrity tips in the forums for those who asked questions there...any one else can message me here for help if needed. Oh...also...I have mentioned an idea I have for "Ripped and Fryed" I posted that in the forums as well under disk 6 "Ripped and Fryed". Regards, Patrick Posted: Feb 16, 2009 7:50pm Oh yes...if you read Tim's post...you know that your set is about to appreciate by $25 or so...add Ezekiel's EE Index (a $199.99 by his reckoning) and your set has given you about a $225 return on investment already lol

Patrick, I think something even better than crossing at the wrist is to turn both wrists up slightly as you begin the final push through of the two half cards so as your wrists comes down and stops, the pushing action has already started and the half cards are seen to be coming out of the cover card. Also at the moment you stop the wrist turn (downward, not the initial upward turn), you can also add "and they change again." When you say that last line, do so casually, do not draw attention to it.

One of the greatest things about the AoA books and now TA is that it moves away from the trend of techniques and flashiness. The effects on TA are all very much about audience participation and giving your spectators an experience as opposed to showing them a trick (though I do have my reservations about the coin bend, I'm still fully gun ho with the tried and true mentalist style coin bend). A lot of the material is the type which will linger with your spectators and some may not even garner immediate vocal amazement but a more mellow silent pondering that will slowly start to swell to full blown astonishment. I really dig this type of magic as it was the original (and still to this day) reason I became interested in magic. To me it had always been about what can I bring to my spectators to make them have the same feeling as I did when I saw the first magical effects that truly floored me.
All in all, still quite astounding how good the material (both effects and the vast collective knowledge) is on TA. |
