Has anyone completely finished watching all the DVDs? I pretty much saw every single clip on each DVD and I must say that a feeling of profound sadness overcame me when the closing interview was over. What an incredible journey this has been.

A five pound note is the only UK money that will fit in the pen, but it does fit and works fine. Haven't made a decision yet which effect is for me. Probably the forgetting theme, or the rub. The other effects the pen takes too much of a front seat!

I'm trying to figure out what effect to do with the pen as well. I agree, the pen is rather prominently placed in the ones involving visual changes. I really like the idea behind the celebrity signatures one and may work on that despite the problem you mentioned.

Short term memory is an incredible effect, partly because the reaction is generated by the audience who is "in" on what image will be vanishing. The person who is supposed to name all the things just freaks out.

I agree it's a great effect. I guess my question is more whether the use of the pen is the best way to accomplish it.

Ok, it took me longer than I thought, and and ADDITIONAL revision (due to some input from Acecardician) (and help from Nathan Pain) to make the newest version 1.4. After work tomorrow, I will distribute this new version to everyone who has responded to me to get the EE cards.
What has changed? 1st is I am using the actual font that TA used (since I wasnt told it was a secret, I am going to assume it was, so don't ask). And 2nd I have included a 10th card as an INDEX (thanks Acecardician for the great idea). This 10th card should be put in the BOX, not any of the jackets. It will help you identify which disk to go to for that certain EE. Otherwise you would have to open each jacket to see if it was on that disk... This index will help you to find that certain one later... (for those of us that are forgetful). If you still havent emailed me for your copy (still $199.99) (just kidding, its free), then just email me. I've gotten some very good reviews, and it cant hurt. If you don't like it, just don't print it off. And lastly... it will now be sent out in PDF format. This should make things more universal. trickymagic@gmail.com

This will make it easier to find something. Maybe next an index of the Whole Set of Regular content on one card? I also suggested putting the number by each one corresponding to the Windows Media number the cookie is. Because "They" have the TV downstairs, so I have to watch all this on my PC. Not everyone uses Windows Media so this will not be on your set of cards. If you want the numbers, I should have them by tomorrow. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you don't need them. I'll list them when I get them all at the TA forum, If you need them and don't go there, just email me and I will send them along. slikjojo@cox.net Thanks again to Ezekiel Jump known as trickymagic for the work he put into this. Everyone who got the last copy will get this updated copy by tomorrow. It is so convenient to have all this info, so I don't have to take time looking for something, I can just go right to it and spend more time learning! Instant gratification! If you don't have these yet, email trickymagic@gmail.com and he will get them to you. ACE

By the way, Darryl's videos along with Stars of Magic... they are ANCIENT and they weren't shot with all that much care to begin with. Do you have any idea how much they had cost when they originally sold on VHS? Obviously NOT. Ok Mr. Financially Smarty Pants that likes to insult folks. Tell me if this makes financial sense to you:
TA actually has EXCELLENT original material as listed for each disc, then you have original bonus material/effects, then you also have a nice chunk of the contents from Paul Harris' Stars of Magic video along with a nice chunk of the contents of his Art of Astonishment series. You also get all the gaffs along with it. Hmmmmmmmmm, yup, sounds like hype and absolute rip off to me. |

Paranoid much? I bet your a cospiracy theorist too huh? Please don't buy this though if you feel this way about it. Paul put in all the time and hard work to put this out and almost didn't but because of "us" thankful magicians he started and stopped this project four times until he finally was able to release this to the chants an cheers of us that have waited for years for this. Paul's stuff may not be everyone's cup o' tea because he simplifies the effect down to the bare essentials which in some peoples view (without performing it of course) don't think anything with a simple method would work in the real world, but that's Paul's style: Simple, effective, bare bones magic, that fully encompasses the spectators and their emotions and sense of the world which is what makes his effects and even himself so appealling to most people because in a day when technology and highly gimmicked effects are the next big thing he takes a step back, looks at effects through the eyes of a spectator ( not a magician ) and creates wonderul real world working effects. Now if you can't appreciate that then this set would be a shame for you to own.
PS And that is for everyone who is ungratefull towards the steps Paul has made and is making to further magic. JJ PSS Now for the nasty pms and replies |

What about the cost to repair my DVD players after trying to play faulty disks? I did not "insult anyone" I simply responded to the insults of others. Some fanboys just don't want to hear any criticism regardless how true and relevant it is. I am just tired of people acting as though this is the best DVD set in the world. Maybe it is "one of the best" if the disks actually work, but there are countless other great sets out there. I still think it is overpriced compared to the amount of information in the books.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

I usually spend $35 a DVD plus postage.
I just so happened to buy all 9 at the same time. And I paid $100 for a nice box, and $100 for some props. So the 9 Discs cost me $100 or $11.00 each. Now that is a bargain! Ok-ok, so $50 for the box and $50 for the props! $22 a Disc NEW is a very discounted price and a bargain. At my last count there are 45 of those Easter Egg Cookies, so that is 45 things for FREE!! And 42 in regular content. If you say they are not free, then 300/87= about $3.50 an item. WOW! Some people say if you get one usable thing in a book or DVD it makes it worth it. I don't know about that, but... there is definitely more than one usable item in this whole set, so it is worth it. Just watching the interviews makes me a better magician and person, because I gained the knowledge. I don't recommend anyone getting this because I want to hog it all for myself! ACE Posted: Feb 19, 2009 12:02am Wait, I forgot to deduct for the box and props. 200/87=about $2.30 for each item. No, not worth it. ) ACE

I don't think your dvd player is going to break via playing the disks...
Here's the hype 9 dvds=$300 that ='s $33.33 per disc. Stevens magic said he'll give you a $60 gift card if you ord er from him. Other places are also offering promo's like that. The people selling these dvd's I think are nuts. They either burnt copies for themselves and are trying to make some of their $$$ back or they just wanted to "rent" the set for a small price and get their $$$ back. There is some good material on there. If you take one disc per month, spending time to learn each effect you'll probably never have to buy another dvd for close up material again!@# You get just about all the special hard to find gimmicks you'll need plus bonuses throughout the dvd! Best investment I've made yet! |

Brad: I have read every post in this thread from the start. And from all of your questions and anxieties about this, I would recommend that you do not get it.
I am being serious here. You will not like it. I am basing this on what you have had to say so far. Yes, all of your complaints are TRUE. I think the Paul Harris Fanboys can overlook anything wrong with this set. I did. But from what you posted I don't think you can overlook any problems. And I am not being sarcastic. I really don't think you will like this and will just complain more if you do get it. I think you will be one of the guys who want to sell it. So do yourself a favor and just don't get it. I'm giving you a true honest opinion and no hype. Save your money or buy something else. ACE
