Thanks to everyone who is trying to keep this on topic... And shame on those who are acting like children calling each other names... (and if you just went to "reply", I am talking to you! Someone asked about missing gimmicks and since my discs are in the process of being replaced, I was wondering if there is a list of what should be included so I can just verify I got everything.

On a related note, I have found Jason and Tim to be awesome and quick to respond, so the "hypothetical" what if questions are just musings and ponderings of an idiot... The actual experience of people here speak more loudly than the "what-if statements of a "post hijacker" Ignore him and maybe he will go away!

HELP!!!

Hi Matt,
You should get a brown burlap bag with your box and DVDs. In the bag there should be:
2 TA pens sealed in a clear plastic bag with binder clip and black tap strip
1 credit card sized plastic lens (Lubor’s Lens) in black fake leather holder
~25 Coffee cards, business card sized with free rubber band
1 pack of IT wrapped around half a card (mine is 5 of hearts) sealed in a plastic bag
2 sheets of "Total Access DVD training Series" cards with poker hand rankings, each sheet has two cards printed on them so once they are cut out you get 4 cards (44mm x63mm)
1 manila envelope (75mm x 115mm) filled with 6 gaffed jokers, 4 gaffed 2 of hearts cards, a double sided card and two "Pack of Lies" gimmicks
2 buttons (mine are black with a "?")
1 magnet (12mm diameter disc)

If I missed something please let me know guys, because that would mean I did not get it. But I think I covered everything.

Thales, thanks, That is everything I have.

I bought my Zippo lighter today, actually it is a Ronson for $3.99.
So I'm going to start trying Twilight Angles on friends.
While I was at the store I bought some ZigZag papers for another effect in the series. Good thing I went to the store across town. In my neighborhood everyone knows me as the clown. They would wonder about the clown buying papers and a lighter!(I know I could do tricks for them, but I don't feel like having to explain these props when the effects are not practiced.)

Time to start having fun!

The tricks are awesome, the performances are good, some of the gimmicks are very clever. But overall . . . I felt cheated by these DVD's, because there is very little "Paul Harris" to be found here. I think there were a maximum of five interviews with him (most very short ones with poor sound quality). The saving grace was his "closing interview" . . . a tough hidden gem to find although I'm sure it's been posted here or somewhere else online. If there had been more material like that on the discs, I'd be singing the praises just like most others. But I really felt like the lack of Paul Harris was a ripoff. Having said that . . . everything else about these discs is awesome. But I waited four years and paid $300 for "Paul Harris", and that's not what I got . . . so if you are looking for a bunch of awesome tricks performed and explained by his friends, with a few vague comments by him here and there . . . great interviews with anybody and everybody but Paul Harris . . . and one or two good interviews with Paul near the end . . . definitely buy it if your funds permit. But if you're hoping for Paul Harris to be the centerpiece of this project . . . you are going to be SORELY disappointed . . . save your money.

There are some clips from his old videos . . . which might be a redeeming quality to some people (not to me) . . .

Wish I could give a better review . . . but my main impression was . . . wow . . . awesome stuff on here . . . but where in the heck is Paul Harris? As little as he appears in these . . . I think it might as well have been called "Bro Gilbert's True Astonishments" or "Paul Harris's Friends' True Astonishments."

Even with the lack of Paul Harris . . . the interviews are also great at times . . . esp. with David Blaine and Michael Ammar. And there is also a cool interview with two people who walked across America to meet PH.

I'm just hoping he'll write an autobiography some day . . . or maybe another magic book . . . not so much focused on all these awesome tricks everybody is going to want to do . . . but more about himself and his magical journey . . . I find something very inspiring in the story of how his apartment with all his magic stuff burned down and that only made him more passionate about the art . . . and so on. There was NOTHING about that on these discs.

So . . . I guess for the general consumer this is an awesome product. But . . . I'm pondering whether I might not learn more about Paul Harris and his views on magic by finding a used copy of that MAGIC magazine he was in a year or so ago. Apologies to Paul Harris if he reads this review . . . if he would even care . . . but by taking himself out of the picture he killed at least 50% of the "magic" the product could have had . . .

Does it really matter whose set of hands were teaching you the tricks? Paul was all over this thing in the PHootnotes and in the easter eggs. I did not feel that it lacked Paul at all, other than performances which Bro did most of. I would've complained if Bro was a bad performer but I think Bro was one of the best performers I have ever seen. Also, Paul explains why he did not want to be on it and I think we have to respect that.

For me, I really enjoyed the way these DVDs were done and I thought the way that Paul presented himself on them was absolutely perfect for the mood and feel of the DVDs. That's just my opinion.

I'm going to start Twilight Angles without the signature for close friends.
I ordered 50 refills in redback, they are on back order, but I am patient and in this for the long run. So by the time I get good at it, they should be here.

I'll keep you up to date.

Received TA a couple of weeks ago - Im from the UK - but live in Oz, so was surprised it was delivered in such good time given those two factors hehe.

I do walk around magic, and was a big fan of Paul's astonishment books previously - so was eager to get my 'empty sleeves' into the content of the wooden box.

I've already started using a few of the tricks - twilight angels and the lens / twisty pen thing (which my kids loved!). My fingers have almost recovered from the various lighter burns involved in preparing the bic pen, (but hey, I should have read the warnings Smile)

No problems so far with any of the dvd's rattling (although only upto disk 4)...Im trying to take my time with each dvd, to soak up the ambience and content - (Im a little annoyed that none of them actually have rattled so far - I feel like Im missing out on something Smile ).

Alright, it isn't loaded with Paul Harris interviews or close up's of his tousled tash and hat, (but lets face it - is that something you really want to see a lot of ? Smile ). Instead, what it does have, are 9 disks containing some truly astonishing tricksy tricks, designed to make people giggle like children when they witness them, and a puzzle box which, (if worked just right) leaves an awesome PH blister on your thumb which you can utilise in one of your own tricks. All this for me is definitely worth the money invested.

So - a big thankyou from me to everyone involved in this awesome package, Jason, Tim, Paul etc.

Now if only some red backs twilight angel refills could be released quicker, dammit! Smile

Wow the best dvd set I have ever bought. TOP notch quality. The box is beautifully crafted with a hidden lock. The set is packed with many practical tricks ranging from card magic to LEAF magic. My favorite tricks so far are half moon voodoo, ripped and fryed, and sun of stunner (very powerful trick, MUST PERFORM). These are only a few tricks, but this set is packed with information and you will find something that you will use in every DVD. HIGHLY recommend it if you have 300 dollars to "invest" (haha don't think of it as blowing 300 bux it's a long term investment. The information in here is priceless) . Believe me his is probably the last dvd set that you'll need for the next 2 years.

For those of you who do Lubor's Lens do it with your sharpie at the end of your set or performance after they have already signed cards and stuff switch it with the twisted Sharpie and leave them with a great souvenier. Also the plastic I more thick and hardened which adds to the twisting of the Sharpie.

The TA set is like a retrospective of Paul Harris' 30+ year career in magic. I'm sorry, but anyone who says Paul is not in these DVDs is crazy. He's just not the out-going show biz kind of guy he used to be.

I think this whole project was handled beautifully. And, that closing PH interview changed the way I look at magic.

My favorite PH interview was the one from Reel Magic. He talks about some theories I had to find out in the real world of performing. And it is so true.
I've talked about them in other topics in the Café, but he just tells it so well.
And he has names for them, so I can put a finger on them.
Perfect.

Robert, great post. This IS Paul's DVD set. Not only by name and throughout, but he's the guiding force behind it all.

And that end interview was amazing.

I'm not sure why sirbrad is so upset considering he hasn't purchased TA yet. I'd just wait about a month or so to buy it to assure no bad sets are still lingering around. From what I have been able to watch of it, I've been quite happy with.

I would however like to point out how tough it is to sympathize with those of us who got bad sets, broken boxes or missing props if your set arrived perfectly. In other words, to you I may seem a bit out of line for complaining, but to me, my complaints are totally legit. The faulty disks aren't just isolated cases, as there are many people who still can't enjoy the set. I'm sure Tim and Jason are good guys and are handling everything the best they can. It's just hard to be positive when my credit card bill is paid for, yet I'm still not able to play most of the DVDs. When I contact the dealer I ordered from, I don't always get the quickest response which worries me even more. Bottom line is this; it’s been nearly three weeks now and I’m still not sure if or when my new disks will be sent to me.

Sometimes putting yourself in other people shoes can give you a better perspective on things. Again, I don't want be negative, but it's getting quite difficult to stay on the up and up. Thanks for listening!

Nothing to complaint about, a little suggestion on interview tracks in the future will be nice if English subtitles can be added. I know it is too late to say that but I believe that those interviews are real gems of the TA set and for those non-English speakers will benefit more if they are embedded with English subtitles.

I have no problem in understanding those interviews but a little more compliment will benefit many others who enjoy the set.

Thanks for reading, need to watch the set again tonight after work to give more sharing in TA forum.

I own the AoA books for several years now and have been doing some tricks out of them. I discarded a lot of tricks but seeing some of them on the TA discs motivates me to do them now, best example : tensegrity. It also motivates me to reread all the other stuf ( after spending 2 years with the TA set first ). My favorites until now : The big tiny ( regular ZS works better for me than the sloppy one ), LVL$ ( wow that ending has a lot of different possibilities ), Halfmoon voodoo, Extraordinary proof, ripped and fryed ( *** those angles )...English is not my native language so I really love the explanations with text that I can pause. Any news about an open forum yet? If that does not come I'll start posting in the secret sessions myself.

I think MAGICCAFE should open a SPECIFIC forum for this set .

All available information and discussions would be found at one place.

Should be great.
