I'v just had some great news and I thought I should share it with you.Ill give you a bit of background first.
Well I'v been working at my current restaurant for about 9 months now and I'm loving it but recently it's really slowed down to the point where there are points where I'm standing around doing nothing for more than the time I'm performing. Iv had my eyes on a new restaurant for some time now and have been building up my promo package getting ready to pitch myself to the owner. This place has a bar, restaurant and function room and already has a lot of entertainment in the form of music so they'd be perfect for magic. Anyway I'v just had a phone call from someone who saw me at my current restaurant and he has hired out the function room for his own private party and he wants me to do some strolling/table hopping magic there. I think this is the perfect oppertunity for me to show the manager what I can do without pitching to him which isn't my strongest ability.I plan on taking all my promotional stuff with me and having a chat with the manager after this gig. It's like I'm giving him a free night but I didn't have to pursuade him first.Im just really happy with the way this has turned out. Just thought I'd let you guys know as this forum and particuly this section has helped me so much in the past. Thanks Dab

Good Luck, that sounds like a good plan. If the owner wants to see an effect or two, you will already be 'in the zone' to show some knockout stuff!!

Congrats ! Just make sure you don't burn any bridges. Is the gig you have now in jeopardy? Are they still willing to keep you even though you had a few slow nights? Would you still keep your current gig if offered the other?
Whatever the scenario make sure you take care of your present gig, because you never know. Remember the grass is always greener but it still has to be mowed. Hope it all works out for you. DP

davidpaul$ thanks for the advice I'm currently only doing 1 night a week at my current restaurant so I'll keep it on even if I get this new one but I just hate not doing anything. But thanks for the advice and I will look after my current gig. Thanks Dan

Daniel,
Congrats on the opportunity. My only suggestion is to try to meet with the owner BEFORE your show. Try pitching him first using the private party show as an opportunity for him to see you. If you talk to him after the show, well, he may not have even known you were there, and may not have noticed. This would give him a reason to watch how you would interact with his guests. Break a leg...or at the very least, pull a hamstring. patrick |

Patrick, Thanks fot the advice ill definatly talk to the owner before the gig.The gig is on the 10th of march so I'm thinking aobut a week before so I'm still fresh in his memory when it comes to the evening.
Thanks for all the support guys. Dan
