AllanK, can't thank you enough for taking the time to post. Powell's stand is, indeed, magnificent. Expensive, but very rich looking. Just ordered it. Thanks again.

… this worked perfectly for me. I used a black-hair band loop to attach it to the upper pole. |

Last weekend, my father gave me this antique copper incense 'stand', which came from an old monastery.

By the way, this is the original Syned Soj box (by Jos Denys), which uses a chain with four loose small nails. I found it somewhere. Had to buy it.
I bought an additional chain set from Viking, to make it smoother. Great service! Man, I love this thing. Little secret: I don't use playing cards but pictures |

Delimbeau, the stand looks great. If you use pictures instead of cards how are you handling the reveal?

Love the stand but IMO you now need to age the chain to match the look. Even just lightly misting it with some black spray paint would probably suffice for stage work.

I was on the phone this morning with George Robinson at Viking Magic and placed my order for The Chest of Nostradamus. Once it arrives in a few days, I'll be looking forward to playing with it and thinking about it with a goal of "Making A Presentation that is "My Own". To do that, I will need to get way past the trick's mechanics and it's "Mental Gymnastics" so that I will be able to focus on my very own personal presentation. I believe that this trick can be a SERIOUS KILLER (with the "Right Presentation". My second mentor in Magic, the late, great Dick Oslund, taught me that there are three steps to learning a magic trick.
(1) Learn How the trick is done. (2) Learn how to DO IT. 3) Learn how to PERFORM it so that it is ENTERTAINING. Number 3 is the hard part. |

I have a Chest of Nostradamus coming my way (estate piece). Could someone who owns one kindly measure the distance from the bottom of the Chest to the top ring of the chain when the chains are in position? I have been looking at various stands on Amazon and knowing the height of the setup props would be very helpful.
Please and thank you! Mark

I wanted a stand with more of a hook shape at the top and I found this one: In addition to the hook, I like that this stand's height adjustment knob is on the backside of the stand (like the one you linked). That eliminates the risk of accidentally snagging the chain or banging the chest against the knob. Unfortunately, that model is only available as a 2-pack. Still, not horribly expensive. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0967J4QB6 My Chest of Nostradamus should be delivered tomorrow. The display stand will be here on Sunday. Thanks again! Mark

Looks good, Mark. Let me know how it works out for you. I first tried a banana stand but it wasn't tall enough. Then I found an ornament stand that looked nice, but it, too, was not tall enough. I'd prefer something other than chrome, but the stand from Amazon works fine for practicing the effect. (Also, I've got an old dog at home that requires an IV every couple of days and the stand is the perfect height for suspending the IV bag.)

I received my Chest of Nostradamus today. Its basic method is exactly what I figured it would be, but the overall method is even more clever than I expected. I am VERY pleased with my purchase. Especially considering one recently sold on Magic Collectibles for $375 and I only paid $200. The one I received is in like-new condition, except for a very slight bit of tarnish on the ring attached to the four short chains. The chains themselves are in like-new condition.
I'm a happy camper! My stand will be here tomorrow and I'll snap a photo of the chest hanging from the stand. Mark

Here's my Chest of Nostradamus hanging from the stand I linked a couple of messages ago. I think they look very nice together and I'm glad I went with the understated black stand vs. a gold or silver stand.
