I agree, Martin. There is absolutely nothing to gain by posting this on video.
As to the math aspect, I do not think it is in the "tricky-math" category even though there is some easy math and memorization. Not difficult at all, but practice is needed for sure. Well worth the effort, though... Jim

I see your points guys. My initial worries dealt only about giving away any secrets (which wouldn't be the case, so I thought: "Why not?") but keeping this gem only known to the serious performers might be a valid point as well.
So I second the overall advice: Cyberqat, you can't go wrong with this if you like the effect as described! Myself I'm gonna place an order on Viking's as well quite soon - their stuff is soo nice...!

I'm sure its great, but when spending large money on illusions (which I consider anything over about $40 to be large) I really like to see what the spectator will see first. So thanks guys and I appreciate the advice, but as I don't really need it in my act atm I think I'll wait and watch for someone performing it.

Magical dudes,
I'm very interested in the Chest of Nostradamus, principally because of the all the great reviews it has received and I like the effect (and I, too, have dealt with George at Viking and find him to be an excellent fellow). I have one question that will pretty much determine what I do, and I would much appreciate an answer from someone who is familiar with the actual workings of the trick and is comfortable doing it. It's clear from watching Dill's Revelation that the performer must touch the envelope that contains the secret card or the trick will not work (exactly how it works is a mystery to me). Is this also true for the Chest of Nostradamus? Does the performer have to open the envelope or touch it any way? From what's been posted (and the description at Viking's website)the performer touches nothing--cards or chest--once they are handed over to the spectator, but is that also true with the envelope? I can see no way for the trick to work without the performer doing something with the envelope prior to the trick's conclusion, but if it's as clever as everyone is saying, a performer having to handle the envelope containing the prediction would seem to fit the "not clever" category. Any help will be much appreciated as I consider making what would be a big purchase (at least for me). Zipper |

Mr. Mystoffelees,
Thanks for the quick reply (you have an attractive family, by the way). Could/would you say a few more words to make sure that I'm clear that the performer does not touch the envelope (or the cards or box) once the trick begins. The Chest of Nostradamus must, indeed, be real magic. Zipper |

Zipper-
You are right- clarification is in order. Please excuse me, as it has been awhile since I was in performance mode with this effect. The performer does not touch the cards or the envelope during the prediction phase of the effect. The cards, and the envelope, are locked in the Chest. However, the performer does remove the card from the envelope after the spectator has removed the envelope from the Chest, announced what card was thought of, and before the dealt-to card is revealed. The order of events makes this seem a totally reasonable thing to do. I am trying to be very careful with my words here, to avoid exposure. I hope it is clear, zipper. If not, I will be glad to discuss in more detail by PM. Hope I have not confused things too much... Jim

Lets bump this thread! Just got this from a fellow Magic Café member, and I just wanted to say, this thing is so dang fascinating. I'm just a collector and I fall in and out of love with Magic, but because of this box, I've got the magic bug again. I forgot who it was, but someone mentioned a way to avoid the face-up scenario, if you can PM me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

No more discussion on this wonderful box? I've come up with a routine that uses in conjunction with OVERKILL, a trick in one of Ammar's Easy to Master Card series. This has worked well for me and no longer uses prediction envelopes. Anybody still perform this with their own set-up or twists?

Is it possible to use this trick for another effect then ACAAN? Can I use this box like Kennedy's Mystery box in order to produce a card selected by the spectator? For example, the magician shows ten cards, and makes disappear the card that the spectator thinks of (thanks to the Princess card principle), and produce that card in the chest of Nostradamus. In fact, I am not interested in the ACAAN effect, because it seems to me stronger to reveal the exact card in the box (there is juste the prediction in the box) without counting cards of a deck. I am interested in this product if I can use it for others effects. Thank you for helping me.

The purpuse of this Chest is only to produce a prediction card at any number (CAAN). But I think it's a marvelous method to do it. If you want to produce any selected chosen card in a box that looks more deceptive than Mystery box, you may want to take a look at Magic Wagon's Clearly impossible box. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=109&2 |

...but even the Clearly impossible box won't work in combination with your Princess card effect, as the card is clearly inside the box at the beginning...
