You have your ring on string, linking finger rings, ring to impossible locations, ring flights, devo D'ring, ring thing, floating ring, etc. Perhaps more along the lines of the version of which hand "Ring of Truth" and Bernsteins "the Ritual" My question being, are there any other sources of information on more unusual/creative impromtu ring effects/routines out there for us finger ring junkies. Many thanks

Ring Tricks (DVD) by Stephen Ablett (See my signature)

Himber (Linking) Ring Routines
Wizard PK Ring Routines (Randy Rain)
Mercuring (Jay Sankey) - Although this can be done with a normal ring as well.
Prediction effects, using the ring as the marker
Eye to eye (Gauci) - Using a ring as the object hidden in the spectators hand.

I checked out the ring & string demo. Impressive. Will you be at Blackpool?

While not impromptu, Gary Kurt's "Attraction" is an amazing routine with a ring and stick. It's a perfect effect for couples. You can find it in his book and DVD.

Yes, I'll be at Blackpool. I'm in the 'Beat the Wand' competition on Saturday night, so you can catch me there.
I have a whole new act I want to perform, but whether it will be ready in time is unknown. I'll have my ring tricks with me, but I think the size of the audience (100+) will make it not the best routine to perform.

Thanks for the comments on Ring Tricks. It is my favourite routine and I perform it everywhere I go. I wear a thin chain around my next, with the ring on it. So that it always has the impromptu look when asked to perform. (I hate it when a magician has a pack of cards at the ready, its looks as though they are begging for someone to ask).
I don't advertise it much, only on my website. I make my money from shows and the DVDs are just to improve my rep with clients and help other magicians with routines I devised. I want the routines to stay somewhat special to me and the few people that buy the DVD, not something that gets into popular culture.

With that in mind, you've just reminded me about 'Sean Fields - Northbound' which is another good trick as a linker between ring tricks and ring & string. You can also make a ring float, and grow into a napkin ring.

My favorite ring and rope routine is Repeat Ring Release by Dan McDonald. My variation on Dan's routine got me a spot on Entertainment Tonight along with Paul Harris, and Seigfried and Roy.

Garrett Thomas also has some great work with finger rings, Ed Ellis has a nice finger ring and rubber band move that is a must, Quad-Ringle Plus by Marc DeSouza, Attraction by Gary Kurtz, Gary Ouellet The Homing Ring, The Fireman's Pole Move by Gary Ouellet, Dan Garrett's Faustus Ring Move, Ringer by Scotty York, Ringworm by Richard Sanders, The Ring by Brian Nordstrom, Ring by Ray Grismer, The Ring and String by Mark Leveridge, Three Round Ringer by Danny Korem, Clifton's Ring Move by Emile Clifton, Magic with Finger Rings by Jerry Mentzer, and Phil Willmarth has a Ring and Rope book; however, I believe that Phil's book is hoop rings.

I have added a new ending to my routine using the "Ring Box" from Joker Magic. At the end of my routine I place the center of the rope containing the ring into a card box and the ends of the rope are given to a spectator to hold. I shake the box and a rettle is heard. I reach into my pocket and remove a second card box. I shake it and nothing is heard. I shake the ring and rope box and a rattle is again heard. I again shake the second box and nothing is heard. I shake the ring and rope box and nothing is heard. This surprises me, I pause, and slowly look at the second card box. I give it a shake and a rattle is heard. I ask the spectator to remove the rope from the card box - the ring is gone. I open the second box and the ring drops out.

I hope this helps. If I find any more ring effects an my collection I will post them for you.

Take care and take cards

Sankey's 'Stirring Silver' with finger ring and spoon.
A few folks have routines with a ring and elastic band.

You may want to take a look at The World's Greatest Magic with Finger Rings.

I do Smile
The impact is incredible ( perhaps even the stonger ever with ring)
I use it for a transpo effect.
Basically I borrow a ring, it vanish and ask to another personn her/his ring and in the same time I put the first ring to her finger.
Or you steal a ring from a hand and you mae an exchange ( my favorite version)
One minus you have to practice a lot and in real to perform it correctly.
I you do pickpocket it's easier ( same control and misdirection)

Gregory WIlson's DVD Ringleader and Miller's Relentless Ring are both excellent. If you want to learn my finger ring and rope or cord routine refer to my book Kingdom of the Red and the companion DVD. Everything is there down to the smallest detail. It's complete with my script which tells a story in verse. Below is one of the 44 photos in chapter 23 of my book (Wedding Ring Redux).

I came up with an interesting ring and coin routine a few years back while sitting on my couch with my roomie watching TV. It's great for laymen but by no means is a magician's fooler. PM me if you wanna know about it.

I had a lot of good responses with the effect I put out called "OffeRing".

I know J.C. Wagner and Doc Eason used to do it years ago. It fooled a lot of magicians at the Magic Castle.

A borrowed ring with length of rope. Specator threads the ring onto the rope themself. They place the ring on your open palm. You close your hand and turn it over. You ask the to take the end of the rope, one end in each hand (YOU DO NOT HAND THE ENDS TO THEM).

They stretch the ropes out and you place the ring in the other hand which then places you hand under the rope. You slide your hand back & forth a few inches while pulling down slightly. You then release the rope and slowly open your hand. The ring is off the rope and in your palm.

In this routine, your hands never pass each other for a steal like many other routines.

Hope this was clear.

This certainly sounds like it kicks the standard method up a notch or two Ron, as well as the wow factor
