What is a good source to learn some neat coin moves (things like appearances, disappearances, productions and things like that) not really tricks or routines as much. things I can add to my one coin routine?

Welcome to the Café Newtomagic!
Listen to the wise advice of Father Photius and get yourself a copy of the 'New Modern Coin Magic' (not the green 'Dover' edition entitled 'Modern Coin Magic'). That should keep you busy for some time to come... |

Magicandsoul, I felt that most of the material on Covert Coins was based upon some of the ideas in Bobo's and the work after Bobo's and he might find it difficult to refer back and forth. Take the suggestions above and get the Rubinstein DVDs, Modern Coin Magic (I only have the Dover reprint but I'm sure the new modern coin magic will fit you as well) and Father Photious mentioned Curtis Kam material however I will disagree. Curtis' material tends to require lots of palming and switching in and out on the spot as well as fast steals, placements, adjustments etc. If you are REALLY willing to learn some of what Curtis Kam has to offer, go find my review on The Pocketbook, Curtis' latest offering to the magic ferternity, and then I will reccomend you his "Silverado" DVD after getting really good at everything in Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. Edit: Don't be a fool. Learn the classic palm (Ok that is a little extreme, after all, John Ramsey didn't use the CP, neither does Vinny Marini )

Speaking of new coin moves, I should mention that there are further aplications of STEALTH palm on the new DVD series, which should really fill your need for new coin move cravings! If you haven't seen the Feb issue of MAGIC, you have missed out on a NEW weapon for your coin magic, but all is explained in the new DVD's, and MORE!

Though I have been playing with coins (and using them in my programs) for quite a while, I still like going back to the basics like Dr. Rubinstein's encylopedia.
It is like reviewing my scales on the harmonica.....they make great building blocks. Having a good foundation in magic is the same as in a building or ones life. Harris

As mentioned above, Bobo's is a good place to start and nothing out there is more affordable for all you get in that little book.
I would also suggest if you want to go beyond books and DVDs, try my "Crimp Change," "Short Pockets," "10 Switch" downloads for some interesting moves and ideas that are very doable and quite affordably amazing. And again newt, "Welcome to the Café." It too is a great place to start.

In addition to the Bobo Book, I strongly, STRONGLY recommend the Bobo DVD collection by Ben Salinas. I'd go on to say that the book AND the DVD are needed to together if you want to speed up the learning process (and not spend 10 years learning how to classic palm). Seriously, the DVD set is a great source, and not too expensive.

My sugestion would be why learn moves that you probably won't use. Find the routines you like and learn the moves in the routine. Then you would be learning new moves and a routine at the same time.
Be a master of a few, not a novice of many....... Just a tought. Tim

EXCELLENT advice there Tim! You see people doing the same thing around ever corner. They master all of their Ellusionist and Theory11 tricks, post the videos, and get flamed for them. A harsh lesson lol.

Ditto on Tim's post. Just like Tiger Woods reworking his swing, I figure I can rework many slights I have been doing for a long time and still make them just a little bit more convincing. But it always more interesting to do that within the context of a routine that I can actually use.
