While watching Dean Dill present and teach his matrix effect...the one he did on the tonight show, he at one point says to place the coin with the S*** on the bottom and scoop it up with a card. I do not believe I could ever do this with my half S*** as the S*** would be obvious. I am pretty sure I have a Johnson and I gotta tell ya it looks pretty obvious.
Is there a different S*** to get that is better? Do I just need to purchase a set from a dealer like school craft? Thanks, Dorian

Actually....that was kinda an inside joke.....I have come across many discussions about the use of *** in a post to conceal the S*c**t.

(serious, lol) Please Todd, mail me one on Monday out of pity. Best, Doug Lippert Columbia,MO

If you are a serious about your coin magic, sooner or later you will want to buy a premium gaff from Schoolcraft. When your just starting out, it's okay to start off with a Johnston or other product. Eventually you'll come to appreciate the fine details.
I perform Deans TS Matrix regularly - it's a killer routine and the nicer coins help.

Man all the money being thrown around for coins.....lol
Its not the coins that make you a better magician its you..... Dorian To answer your question I would go find a fitted Shell set, each coin will be milled to fit into the shell perfectly everytime. The question you have to ask yourself how much do you want to pay. That will determine who you go to. But who ever you choose remember the coins won't make you better only you can do that. Tim

Feher, good points.
Acutally that's what I was hinting at. Beginners start of with beginner equipment - When I first started bicycle riding, I got a $100.00 bike from the penny saver. once I started riding a lot, and gaining skill, I appreciated the esxtra features of the more expensive bikes! My last bike cost more than I'd like to admit! Same with magic. start off with the basics. After you get the basic sills down, you'll have a better touch and feel and will totally appreciate having good equipment.

The original poster stated that he owns a Johnson and wants something better.
I recommend Lassen if you have the time. Quote:

Both Lassen and Schoolcraft are better quality coins. I personally have Lassen coins, and I recieved them, custom coins, quickly. I have heard both Lassen and Schoolcraft have lag times, and the argument over which is better is really pointless, as both are great and there are different opinions.
Point is, if you want high quality coins, you will pay, and you can't go wrong with either person. One additional point I want to make is that maybe you are too contious about your props, and you should work on performing without the guilt that you are using a gaff. You said you have a Johnson and that it would be obvious. I find that Johnson is a very nice product, and I never have had anyone call me out when using them, but I am not worried or guilty about the coin either. I remember when I was trying to learn to throw a lit cigarette in my mouth. Someone told me it was easy, you had to just not be afraid of burning yourself. Once I got the fear out of my head I didn't have any problems. It may be the same for you here.

Lassen coins do make me a better magician because they are so darn perfect.
:) And a darn good investment too. |

I have both Lassen and Schoolcraft soft Walking Liberty sets with sh**ls, and I will guess it is only "experienced coin magicans" and "collectors of coins" who can see the different between the coins in real close up magic.
Sometime I use both Lassen and Schoolcraft coins together in the same routine and the spectators have no chance to see that. I will also guess another magicans will not respond for some differens on the coins in this routine. (It is a "little" different, but you must be a experienced coin magicans to see that.) They are both very good coinmakers. -Morten- |

There's a set of coins called Chiense Coin Mystery that I hear has a really good fitting shell.
http://themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bin/findit.pl?x_item=MI2937 I don't own the set, but I hear you can show both sides when it's nested without fear of seeing something fishy. |
