Hello fellow Wand Wielding Wizards

A few of the competitors have asked what the judging criteria will be and what the competition stage will be like. Below you will find the information that is not yet on our web site.

The competition stage is a portable stage and has back and side curtains; however, it does not have front curtains. We have lighting, sound, and stage strikes to help with set up and tear down if needed.

The competitors have the option to either work on the stage or on the floor. There are four competition categories. Junior close-up, senior close-up, junior stage, and senior stage. There will only be three competitors per category so please register early.

There will be five judges and the high and low scores will be thrown out. That way if one judge is a friend of the competitor or the opposite their score card will not effect the average.

Judging will be primarily on entertainment value and presentation. The competition time frame is eight minutes. Below is the criteria for judging. Highest possible score is 100 points. Competitors will receive copies of the judging cards.

ORIGINALITY = 0 to 10 Points
Originality of effects, presentations, or routines.

Appearance = 0 to 10 Points
Appearance of performer, costume, and props.

STAGE PRESENCE = 0 to 10 Points
Personality, confidence, and professionalism.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE = 0 to 35 Points
Audience and judge reaction and appreciation of performance.

PRESENTATION = 0 to 35 Points
Routine, showmanship, and technical ability.

Thank you

I was just in Las Vegas for two of the Gary Darwin magic club meetings,
the Magic Seminar, and the International Halloween Tradeshow where I was interviewed by Street Of Cards. They indicated that they would try and make Michigan Magic Day 2009.

Michigan Magic Day 2009 is only about a month away. The competition spots are filling and registrations are coming in. There is a $10.00 discount for early registrations. Through April 16th the registration cost is $50.00 for one day or $100.00 for a full registration. At the door the registration is $10.00 more.
