I was looking over my collection of cards and thought about those who go through many more than I do. Do any professional magicians get stuff free like Nike sponsoring an athlete? Bicycle cards? Surely there would be a discount if Copperfield (or other magician that has large, large, large recognition) stepped forward with a large request.

I play poker regularly and see the pros wearing Full Tilt shirts and hats.
Maybe Steve can give me a Magic Café shirt!

David Blaine did a large Target Dept Store promo a year or so ago, so the concept isn't alien to magic.

I'd bet dollars that Houdini did some product hawking as well...

Criss Angel is sponsored in part by Affliction or at least used to be.

Many artists and variety shows have sponsors on their posters and leaflets. Usually those are breweries, banks (maybe not anymore), PR agencies, car companies or entertainment venues.

On your stage costume it would seem to be odd. Imagine Romeo with a Little Cesar’s add on his back. On the other hand, that might be accept as your fresh, society critical approach to art. Who knows?

The answer is "Yes". However, it is not with "ad space" like it is for many sports personalities. In my 47 years of magic, sponsorship has been essentially in the form of the sponsor actually paying the full tab for the show that is free to the public (open and closed!).

Conventions that are not magic conventions are an example.

I don't know about the big guys but I do know several magicians that have corporate sponsors for their shows, especially school shows, and civic shows.

Ken,

This is certainly correct. Every library show that I have ever done was sponsored by someone, not the library. This is also true of every school show I have ever done. Frankly, I don't like working for governmental agencies. (I didn't do anything to have deserved that. LOL)

That's not the whole story. David Blaine recieved many offers of endorsements over the years and turned them all down. He only took the target deal on the condition that they sponsor a tour of children's hospitals.
What's more is that he didn't go around shouting from the rooftops what he was doing. He just did something nice, not for publicity but just because.
It was an incredible thing to do and that should not be downplayed.

Once again, this equation holds true:
